Purpose of the Post:To work alongside the Forestry Manager and Assistant Forester in the management of the firewood and biomass business, taking responsibility for the day-to-day activities and running of the yard and production, drying and delivery of firewood.Main duties and responsibilities:Ensuring the demand for firewood orders is met each week through the cutting, splitting and drying of suitable quantities of firewood. This includes operating the drying kiln; stock control and organisation of deliveries.Managing the day to day running of the forestry yard and equipment.Inspection and regular maintenance/cleaning of firewood machinery, and service record keeping.Taking the lead in managing health and safety within the yard and that of yard/firewood workers.Having a flexible approach to carrying out other work on the estate.Person specification:The successful applicant will have a proactive attitude and will be highly motivated.They will be able to work effectively as a manager of the firewood team, delegating tasks to ensure the work load is completed on time and to a high standard.They will be willing to undertake any training necessary for the role.They will be able to work in an outdoor environment in all weathers with an awareness of health and safety requirements and a flexible approach to work.
