Job Overview
Our Markets division is set to grow rapidly over the next 12 months and we are nurturing a specialist team of professionals with the experience to ensure Mitie retain their place as market leaders in the sector. Risk management and procurement functions are moving away from classic gas and (brown) power contract management to fully ‘green' power contract management and risk mitigation. Customers now require PPA, REC, Carbon as well as power and gas price management.
This position will be responsible for the day-to-day management of key customers energy hedges as well as management of current processes by working with our heads of department to ensure a seamless delivery to our customers. The successful candidate should have an extensive level of technical knowledge in energy markets, supplier relationships, and have knowledge of industry charges / systems whilst maintaining a focus on customer management.
Main duties
-Managing energy positions for key strategic customers with flexible supply agreements; demonstrating value-add and cost-saving impact of our risk management strategies and practices to senior, customer-side stakeholders
-Identifying market opportunities for growth and proposing innovative new products.
-Alongside Research / Risk Managers, maintain a continually evolving market view.
-Send daily reports to customers to keep them up to date with latest prices and market developments as well as any hedge recommendations.
-Advising customers on gas and power purchases in line with each customer's risk management policy and executing trades.
-Ensuring that all trades are recorded and logged properly, using voice records where possible in line with FCA guidelines.
-Helping customers to construct and review energy purchasing strategies to ensure that they are in line with each organisation's attitude towards risk.
-Developing /generating reports to demonstrate performance against various metrics such as market averages or budgeted cost, as well as portfolio position reporting.
-Presenting to customer's Risk Management Committee's and relevant stakeholders.
-Keeping apprised of broader energy policy developments, both in relation to wholesale markets and non-energy charges.
-Supporting the Account Management and Sales teams with any reports or analysis needed for customer retention and new tenders.
-Assist with training and mentoring Risk Managers, Analysts and Graduates.
-Any other duty which reasonably falls within the scope of this role.
Knowledge, skills & experience
-At least 2-3 years' experience in energy trading, risk management and research
-An expert in wholesale market drivers and hedging techniques
-Have a track record in producing written reports to explain wholesale market dynamics to a wide audience, from technical experts to C-suite executives
-Advanced Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint skills
-Expert data analysis and reporting skills
-Numerate and highly literate, especially concerning risk management
-Self-starter, with experience of independent work and ability to work without close supervision
-Confident and calm under pressure
The successful candidate will be based in London, Northampton or another Mitie office, but also be expected to attend meetings at customer sites from time to time. Flexible working from home is available 2-3 days per week at management's discretion.
