The HCA will be employed by GP Healthcare Alliance to deliver a home visiting and clinic-based ear irrigation service to the patients. Main Duties and Responsibilities Professional responsibilities To work within his/her scope of practice and under the supervision of the locality CNM. Have successfully completed the Rotherham ear centre care course and remain up to date with clinical practices for ear irrigating. Be responsible for remaining up to date with training requirements to maintain skills/competencies. To ensure mandatory training is up to date, in line with organisational policy. To participate in clinical supervision. To demonstrate a clear understanding of the accountability and legal implications of the HCA role. Be responsible for the care and upkeep of any equipment provided by GPHA. To participate in an annual appraisal and performance review with line manager. Clinical Responsibilities To undertake ear irrigation at the home of adult patients under the guidance/supervision of the CNM. To refer to the patients GP any patients who have a contraindication to ear irrigation. Report to the CNM on call any clinical concerns prior to ear irrigation. Highlight any gaps in knowledge/training to the CNM to allow them to offer support to fulfil the duties of this post. Ensure clinical practice is safe and effective and remains within the boundaries of competence. Work in line with organisational policies and procedural guidelines. Attend and participate in clinical meetings as required Take part in clinical audit, significant events and complaints to continually review and improve the quality-of-care provision. Communication Communicate effectively with other team members; Communicate effectively with patients and carers, recognising their needs for alternative methods of communication. Enthusiastic about health promotion and lifestyle change. Personal and people development Take responsibility for own developmental learning and performance, including participating in supervision. Take responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal development; Work with management on any new training requirements. To recognise and understand the roles and responsibilities of individuals working in the primary health care team. Health, safety and security Use the personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines. Identify the risks involved in work activities and undertake them in a way that manages the risks. Know the health and safety policies and procedures within the workplace, including fire procedures, maintaining documentation, monitoring and maintaining of equipment and furniture within your area of responsibility. Use the computer monitor safely. Clinical governance Ensure that home visits are undertaken safely in line with the organisations lone worker and health & safety policies. Ensure that patient identifiable information, laptops and smart cards are transported in line with the information governance policy. Ensure accurate and legible notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded promptly and sent to the patients registered practice. To maintain infection control standards in varied and challenging environments in line with the organisations infection control policy and procedural guidance. This includes the care of ear irrigation devices and equipment but not exhaustive of. To ensure the safety of patients, relatives, and colleagues and to report all incidents and near misses in line with the risk management policy. To remain up to date with all mandatory training To maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding adult and children guidance to ensure that those at risk of abuse/suffering abuse are identified and the necessary process to protect them is followed To meet responsibilities as an employee as set out in the organisations corporate and clinical policies.
