Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our team.
The paediatric therapy team work with children and young people aged from 0-19 who live in the St Helens and Knowsley areas and have difficulties with their fine motor skills, activities of daily living or sensory needs. We are a community team and work in a variety of locations, including special and mainstream schools, clinics, and patients homes.
This post is subject to an enhanced with children’s and adult’s barred list Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check.
The successful candidate will work with individuals, families, carers, special educational schools and other agencies to undertake a comprehensive assessment of routine/ predictable patients/clients using clinical reasoning skills and a range of appropriate assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition.
You will be expected to formulate and deliver individual treatment programmes using assessment, reasoning skills and treatment skills based on a sound knowledge of evidence-based practice and a range of treatment options.
You will evaluate patient progress, reassess, and alter treatment programmes using an accepted/ appropriate range of techniques as required reporting back to senior clinician with regular support and advice from seniors.
You will promote healthy lifestyle practices to the general public using your teaching skills. You will also prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care.
You will be expected to work within your own sphere of practice and be responsible for a designated area of work, as delegated by a senior. You will need to plan and organise your time efficiently and effectively to manage your patient caseload,
The post requires travel to various locations across the trust so you must be willing and able to travel within the working day.

To be professional and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients/clients in your care.
To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients/clients using clinical reasoning skills and appropriate assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition.

To take delegated responsibility from a senior clinician for managing patients/clients with particular conditions and be responsible for providing assessment and treatment plans for patients with these conditions.
Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes as required reporting back to senior clinician with regular support and advice from senior clinician.
To have the ability to undertake self-directed/lone working in a variety of locations.
To participate in weekend and evening working, following appropriate training, without direct supervision for example out of hours/orthopaedic seven day working.
MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP (including Financial/Physical Resources and Staffing)
To demonstrate leadership by means of:
• Effecting change within sphere of practice, when and where indicated, to improve service delivery
• Motivating, supporting and enabling others to contribute towards the effectiveness and success of the Trust
To take responsibility for own decision making and the decisions of their team which effect service delivery.
To undertake any other duties that might be considered appropriate by senior staff.
CLINICAL
To be responsible for a designated area of work, as delegated by a senior clinician. Plan and organise efficiently and effectively patient/client caseload, and use of time for self.
To be responsible for equipment used in carrying out clinical duties, and to adhere to policy, including competence to use equipment and to ensure the safe use of equipment by others through teaching, training and supervision of practice.
To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other professionals to promote understanding of the aims of treatment and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.
To provide clinical advice to colleagues working within other clinical areas.
To provide clinical advice, teaching and training to other members of the MDT regarding the management of patients.
LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
To maintain own clinical professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments, and incorporate them as appropriate into your work. To support junior staff to do likewise.
To be an active member of relevant training programmes attending and delivering presentations at staff meetings/tutorials and by attending external courses and being a reflective practitioner.
To participate in the supervision scheme as supervisee and supervisor when appropriate.
CLINICAL GOVERNANCE/RESEARCH AUDIT
To adhere to the appropriate Registrant Body code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and comply with local and national standards of practice.
Undertake policy and service development changes as directed.
Demonstrate an understanding of clinical governance and risk management and apply to work situation.
Undertake the measurement and evaluation of your work and current practices through the use of evidence based practice projects, audit and outcome measures under direct guidance.
To comply with the organisational and local policies and procedures and to be involved in the reviewing and updating as appropriate.
To support research activity within the Service.
To engage actively in practice development, evaluation, audit and research activities relevant to service to promote evidence based practice.
