You will work predominantly (though not exclusively) across the HIV projects, working with a passionate staff & volunteer team to improve the lives of people living with HIV through one to one support, facilitating peer support groups, leading education sessions, educating professionals and the community about HIV. You will help us to reach those who disengage from care by offering dynamic, holistic support to reengage. The role includes:
• Raising awareness of HIV and wider sexual health themes in the community through outreach at events, training and through presentations.
• Provide sensitive, solution-focused support to people living with HIV who have the greatest level of need, helping to improve their adherence to medication, access to services and quality of life. This will include community outreach.
• Register and support people living with HIV, helping them to feel at home and integrate into diverse peer support groups.
• Lead peer support and/or living well groups, hosting and supporting the development of our thriving HIV community
• Involve and empower people living with HIV, amplifying their voice and influence, including working closely with volunteers
• Support the increase of STI testing and uptake of ccard in the community
Working alongside a supportive team, you’ll have the opportunity to learn on the job, grow your knowledge, and contribute your own creativity to the development of services.
The role is based in Newcastle, although some home working will be possible. The post holder must be a confident car driver with regular access to a car and the confidence to drive to locations across the North East.
About Blue Sky Trust
Blue Sky Trust is a sexual health and wellbeing charity with a specialism in HIV.
Our work includes:
• Sexual Health & Wellbeing Project – aims to improve the relationships and sexual health of young people and the wider community. This includes delivering high-quality, curriculum-aligned RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) in schools, as well as providing youth work in community settings. We’re expanding our reach beyond the classroom, working directly within communities—particularly with marginalised and higher-risk groups—to increase knowledge around HIV and sexual health, reduce stigma, and promote testing and prevention. This growing strand of our work is rooted in inclusion, accessibility, and trust. By meeting young people at-risk communities where they are, we’re building safer, healthier futures through education, empowerment, and early intervention.
• HIV Project - Blue Sky Trust has been supporting and connecting people living with HIV at every step of their journey for 32 years. We provide advocacy and support, peer support and programs that help people to live well with HIV. A key focus for Blue Sky Trust is to tackle HIV stigma in the community and we work at a strategic level with partners across the region and nationally to eliminate HIV stigma in our society.
• Professional and Volunteer development – we deliver HIV Awareness training and relationships and sexual health training to professionals to enhance their practice. We also have a thriving team of 20 volunteers (most of whom are living with HIV) who help across all our projects – they give over 1500 hours to Blue Sky Trust every year!
