We're looking for someone to join our Royal Leamington Spa team as an Academic Learning Support Tutor on a permanent, part time, term time only basis.

This role has a September start and is pro rata. The salary you will be receiving is £9,862.05 – £13,787.34 per annum. For any roles that start part way through the academic year, the annual salary will be pro rata to the remaining months.

Protection of Children and Young Persons (The Children's Act 1989)

Any offers of appointment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (formerly CRB), a certificate of good conduct if applicable, plus receipt of satisfactory references, Occupational Health clearance, an understanding of safeguarding and qualifications verification. An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position, as you will be working within 'Regulated Activity' within a specific place (i.e. the College).

This role is classed as working within Regulated Activity. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. By applying for this position, you agree to an Enhanced DBS check in line with DBS regulations.

BACKGROUND TO THE POST

Academic Learning Support Tutors (ALS) are part of the wider College Inclusion team who support students with additional and/or special educational needs and/or disabilities. The Academic Learning Support Tutors’ primary role is to support improvement in English Language and/or Mathematics for students with high needs/Educational Health and Care Plans.

Academic Learning Support Tutors report to the Head of Inclusion who in turn reports to the Director of Quality, Student Experience and Inclusion.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

● Teaching hours will prioritise English and/or maths tutoring for:
o 1:1 and small groups where additional support has been identified for a student with ‘high needs’ or an Educational Health and Care Plan;
o 1:1 and small groups for other students who may require support with English and/or Maths
Hours may also include:
o ‘Drop-in’ English and/or maths sessions for students.
● Preparation and Assessment
● Administration
● Quality Systems
● Health and Safety
● Safeguarding

Essential Attainments

✓GCSE grade A-C or equivalent qualification in Maths and English
✓Full Teacher Training Qualification (PGCE, DET, DTTLS)
✓Level 5 specialism in Literacy or Numeracy or a willingness to achieve this qualification
✓Experience of identifying students with learning support needs and working with such students.
✓Experience of teaching in post-16 education.
✓Experience of teaching English/literacy and/or Numeracy.
✓A willingness to undertake continuing professional development

Desirable Attainments

✓A degree or equivalent level qualification
