About the employer

The family of a young man with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), Autism and learning disabilities, living at home with family, are looking for a Personal Assistant to support him with exercise and access to leisure centre opportunities and activities.

Main Duties
• Accompanying on local trips and outings, initially starting with walks in the local area. Once a trusted relationship has been developed, possibility to increase exercise activities such as swimming and cycling (he has a specially made bike). Plus, access to leisure centre activities that can help reduce his weight.
• Also including visits to a local special needs farm or other local points of interest.
• To ensure his safety at all times. He’s vulnerable and needs a lot of help with most things.
• Personal Care – support with toileting, he can suffer with double incontinence and will need cleaning up.
• Any other task required by you to do, which falls within the scope of the job as a Personal Assistant.

Additional employment information

To have worked with, or have an understanding of, Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS) and Autism.

The successful applicant will be friendly, be able to give empathetic support, and have a can-do attitude with a willingness to help.

Must have an endless amount of patience, caring attitude, calmness and ability to subdue your emotions and reactions.

Must be flexible, trustworthy and active with a good sense of humour.

Must be a car owner/driver and hold a full clean driving licence. Business cover on your motor insurance policy is also essential (proof will be required). Mileage will be paid, minus commute.

Please note you will be directly employed by the person (or their representative) that you will be assisting. The Council is not the employer.
