This role is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team which is responsible for providing assurance that we’re addressing our security risks and improving our security culture. As Corporate Security Advisor, you will be a role model for security, promoting a positive culture and cultivating good behaviours. You will contribute to protecting the organisation from security threats, particularly those which could affect our IT, data and information.

In this role you will:
• work with risk owners across the organisation to ensure our cyber and data security risks are understood, assessed, and adequately mitigated
• drive forward actions that ensure employees and data owners classify and manage data and information securely through its lifecycle
• work in partnership with Defra group Security to ensure we have security strategies, policies, and processes in place
• deliver actions to improve our security culture including through training, communications, phishing exercises, and the use of technological solutions to influence behaviours
• provide assurance to the Security Risk Owner (SRO) for security, and to other senior leaders.
• maintain networks with security professionals to stay up to date with the latest context.

The wider team manages a diverse range of work. There is an expectation that you will become involved in work the wider team does, which will give you the opportunity to gain a wide range of experience of key activities.

We are committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job-share. Please include any information about your preferred working arrangements on your application.
The team
You will be part of a small, welcoming team within the Corporate Management, Assurance, and Security team, who are focused on protecting and empowering the organisation to function effectively and be resilient. You will access the advice of the professional security teams in Defra group Security, and work with subject matter experts in the Environment Agency.
Experience/skills required
The external security landscape is complex with new and evolving risks. Although you do not need to be a security professional, you will need the following skills and experience:

Essential:
• appreciation of wider security influences, so we can continuously improve to meet changing demands
• experience of cyber security measures and managing data and information securely
• independent and self-motivated, with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple demands
• ability to build effective relationships with Defra and Environment Agency colleagues, to jointly manage risks
• excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt to your audience
• working with and providing briefings to senior colleagues
• comfortable with handling and analysing data to identify issues and trends.

Desirable:
• proficiency in using software (such as Excel and PowerBI) to manage data and generate clear reports and dashboards.
• experience of risk management.
