Crynodeb

The post is for a 12 month period. The timetable is based on a 10 PA job plan including 0.7PA for respiratory on-call duties within the 10 PAs, and 1.5 supporting PAs. Time off is given in lieu for any work carried outside of these times including a bank holiday. This post will focus on general Respiratory work including inpatient and general respiratory outpatients with a 50/50 split. There will be the opportunity for subspecialty work if desired and after appropriate discussions. Applicants interested in working less than full time will be considered. An indicative timetable of the fixed sessions is described below. Actual timings of these fixed sessions in the week is negotiable and dependent upon clinic room availability, the overall needs of the respiratory medicine service etc. On an annualised job plan there would be between 80 and 100 outpatient sessions, although more could be carried out with an agreed job plan with additional APAs. There are 1.5 SPAs identified in the job plan. Newly appointed consultants are offered 1.5 SPAs as a given to deliver core SPA tasks, with additional SPA being available subsequently which are discretionary/performance managed against clearly agreed set objectives. These objectives will be defined after appointment in consultation with the Clinical Director. The post take element of the job role maintains general Respiratory knowledge and allows insight into the general functioning of the trust as a whole which would be desirable. The appointee will participate in an on-call service for respiratory medicine. This is approximately 1 in 16 weekdays with occasional calls for advice and 1 in 8 weekends (2 consultants on). This is non-resident but does require attendance to perform post-take ward rounds at weekends and on Bank Holidays, when there are approximately 30-40 patients to review between 2 consultants. The time needed for this is variable depending on the number of new patients admitted to the respiratory wards but would usually be around 3-4 hours each day. There is junior doctor support for these post take ward rounds. This currently attracts 0.7 PA and will be within the 3% banding for on-call payments. There are parallel on call arrangements for other medical specialities, and therefore the on call is purely for Respiratory Medicine. Job plan is detailed within the job description
