Are you an experienced Farm Adviser with a passion for conservation and sustainable land management? Would you like to work in one of the most iconic landscapes in Britain, supporting farmers and land managers to deliver real environmental outcomes?
Join the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and help shape the future of farming in this stunning protected landscape.
About Us
We are the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, an organisation that protects, enhances and promotes the immense beauty, wildlife and character of the Yorkshire Dales. From expansive heather moorland tops to crags, waterfalls, and distinctive pastoral valleys, each part of the Dales has its own unique charm.
We are delivering the Defra-funded Farming in Protected Landscapes (FiPL) programme, which supports farmers and land managers to deliver projects that benefit climate, nature, people, and place.
We’re looking for a Farming in Protected Landscapes Officer to join our delivery team. This is a full-time role (37 hours per week), fixed term until 31 March 2027, based at our Grassington office near Skipton, with some blended home and office working.
The Benefits
• Salary: £28,624 to £35,235 per annum
• Generous leave: 26 days’ annual leave, plus bank holidays
• Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
• Flexible working: including flexi-time and blended working options
• Wellbeing benefits: Subsidised Healthcare scheme, cycle to work scheme and staff discounts
• Free parking
The Role
As a key member of our team, you will:
• Work directly with farmers and land managers to develop high-quality project proposals
• Provide advice on conservation, land management and access and engagement
• Assess applications and present recommendations to the Local Assessment Panel
• Monitor project delivery and report progress to Defra
• Support harder-to-reach applicants and facilitate group or cluster applications
About You
We’re looking for someone who has:
• Experience in agri-environment schemes and upland land management
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, especially with farmers
• A pragmatic, detail-oriented approach and excellent report writing skills
• A good understanding of the challenges and opportunities in protected landscapes
Experience in farmer group facilitation and access or engagement projects would be an advantage.
Access to a car or access to a means of mobility support to meet the travel demands of the post (if driving must have a current valid driving licence and appropriate business insurance) is essential.
