Crynodeb

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant to join Elm Ward at QEHKL. Elm Ward is a 33 bedded acute Trauma and Orthopaedics Ward. Many of our patients are admitted with femoral fractures and require surgery before receiving ward based rehab before being discharged. Our HCA Team are an integral part of our ward team, providing exceptional care to our patients.

Our HCAs are kind, compassionate and caring. We are looking for individuals who uphold our trust values to contribute to making our patients feel comfortable and well cared for during their stay. You are required to be flexible and adaptable to meet the ever changing needs of the unit environment. Our aim is to provide our patients with the highest quality of personal care and support while they are in hospital.

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will be responsible for working under delegation and supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Successful candidates will attend the GROW Programme. This is the QEHKL enhanced induction programme. The programme includes mandatory training (the training that all clinical staff at the hospital complete) and you will be taught the fundamental skills you need to perform your role. You will also attend the Caring with Kindness programme, which provides essential learning from patient experiences. The course is very practical – you will have plenty of time to practice new skills before you start your new role.

The role of an HCA on a ward is varied and the successful applicant will be expected to be flexible and adaptable to meet the daily demands of the role.

Some of the tasks you will be expected to complete are:
• Completing personal care such as washing and toileting
• Support with mobilisation of post op patients
• Complete observations
• Support patients at mealtimes
• Complete tasks delegated by the Registered Nurse
• Communicate with patients and their relative

The successful applicants must have:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate flexibility
• Be able to work as part of a team as well as make decisions autonomously
• Be willing to undertake further training and Mandatory updates as deemed necessary

Previous experience of working within a care environment or the NHS is desirable but not essential as you will be supported whilst learning the role.

You will attend a comprehensive induction programme and will be supported to complete the care certificate.

There’s never been a more exciting time to join TeamQEH. We’re working on a once in a generation opportunity to build a new state-of-the-art hospital planned to open 2031/32 and we are also carrying out on one of the biggest pieces of digital transformation work we’ve ever undertaken.

Our new electronic patient record (EPR) will replace paper-based patient records from 2026 and will lead to better, safer, joined-up care at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital and beyond.

At The QEH we provide a comprehensive range of specialist, acute, obstetrics and community-based services to around 331,000 people across west and north Norfolk, North Cambs and South Lincs.

We are an ambitious organisation that upholds our values of kindness, wellness and fairness. We strive for continuous quality improvement, recently demonstrated in our 2024 CQC maternity inspection rating our services as ‘Good’, and we are proud to be a place to learn and grow through recognised learning and apprenticeships.

We recognise and reward our 4,000 staff and volunteers, priding ourselves on a community atmosphere and positive team spirit. We have approx. 530 beds across 33 wards and have newly built education and training facilities, a range of modern award-winning centres alongside a talented team of people ready to give you a warm welcome. We love working here and think you will too.

Please see attached Job Description and Person Specification for further information about this role.

You will be required to work as part of 7 day rota with day and night shifts.

Please note due to high volume of applications for some posts, this post may close before the displayed closing date. We recommend that you apply for this role as soon as possible.
