We are currently recruiting for a motivated graduate ready to take their first step into a career with purpose, impact and progression. As part of our award winning Fire and Building Safety team, you’ll gain hands-on experience and expert mentoring while completing fully funded training—including the Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety—with a clear pathway to becoming a nationally accredited Fire Risk Assessor (NAFRAR Tier 3).
You’ll contribute to fire risk assessments across a wide variety of properties, including offices, high-rise residential buildings, and supported living schemes. With close guidance, you’ll help ensure compliance with key legislation such as the Building Safety Act 2022 and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, while working with colleagues to embed strong risk management practices across the organisation.
From day one, you’ll play a role in shaping a culture of safety—building relationships, sharing knowledge, and growing your own expertise in an environment designed to support your development every step of the way.
A full UK drivers’ licence is essential to carry out this position.
This role will require a basic DBS check, paid for by Gentoo.
As a Graduate Fire and Building Safety Advisor, you’ll:
Support fire risk assessments across a diverse property portfolio, including high-rise residential buildings.
Help maintain safety cases and the “golden thread” of building information.
Work with industry leaders like Arup and Ridge and collaborate with Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service.
Engage with customers and colleagues to promote a culture of safety.
Contribute to emergency planning, safety inspections, and incident investigations.
Be part of a supportive team that values your growth and development.
We’re keen to hear from graduates who:
Hold a degree in a built environment-related subject (e.g., Fire Safety, Building Surveying, Construction, Engineering, Health & Safety).
Hold a full UK driving licence.
Are passionate about fire and building safety and eager to learn.
Have excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills.
Are ready to work towards professional qualifications and continuous development.
Why Join Gentoo in a Graduate position
Fully funded professional qualifications and CPD opportunities.
Mentorship from experienced professionals.
Flexible hybrid working (home, site, and our Sunderland office).
A role that makes a real difference to people’s lives.
