Job Description
The Personal Assistant (PA) will provide 1:1 support to a 16-year-old male with SETBP1-HD, speech and language delays, global developmental delays, ADHD, and ASD. The PA will assist in fostering independence, supporting social interactions, and ensuring safety during weekly youth club sessions.

Roles and Responsibilities
1. Supervision:
o Provide close supervision throughout the session to ensure safety.
o Occasional additional activities during holiday periods, supervision and travel training during Youth Club organised activities.
2. Encouraging Social Interaction:
o Support appropriate social engagement with peers.
o Encourage communication by facilitating conversations and interactions.
o Assist in interpreting social cues and responding appropriately.
3. Promoting Independence:
o Encourage self-confidence and decision-making skills.
o Offer guidance while allowing the teen to complete tasks independently where possible.
4. Participation in Activities:
o Engage in games and activities alongside the teen to model appropriate participation.
o Teach and reinforce the rules of games to ensure fair and safe play.
o Help prevent accidental damage to equipment by providing guidance on handling materials appropriately.
5. Ensuring Safety & Well-being:
o Monitor interactions to prevent distress or overstimulation.
o Redirect or de-escalate challenging behaviours if necessary.
o Maintain awareness of the teen’s emotional and sensory needs and adapt support accordingly.
6. Communication & Reporting:
o Provide brief feedback to parents or guardians after each session.
o Communicate any concerns or progress regarding social interactions, independence, or well-being.
Specific Requirements
We are looking for someone who is:
• Patient, compassionate, and proactive
• Calm under pressure and able to de-escalate situations
• Experienced or confident working with neurodivergent young people
• Reliable and punctual
• Comfortable engaging in youth-centred activities
• Good at setting boundaries and encouraging positive behaviour
Required Training
• Experience in a similar role (professional or voluntary) is highly desirable
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn about SETBP1-HD, ASD, ADHD, and speech/language delay
• Training in safeguarding and/or de-escalation techniques (desirable)
• Good verbal communication and observation skills
• DBS will be done as part of the role

16-year-old young man with a diagnosis of SETBP1-HD, ADHD, ASD, speech and language delays, and global developmental delays. He enjoys attending his local youth club, being around peers, and taking part in games and structured activities. He enjoys physical activities, including pool and outdoor ball games. He loves vehicles, Pokémon and Mario Kart.
He may need help understanding game rules, interpreting social cues, and managing interactions. He thrives with clear routines, encouragement, and support from someone who is calm, patient, and able to guide him while promoting his independence and safety in a social environment.

How will the hours be used
This role may offer occasional additional hours during holiday periods or when special youth club activities are arranged. There may be occasional requests to flex to a Thursday evening (18:30 – 20:30), if spaces are unavailable on Mondays and the job holder agrees to the change.
