Our Security Officers are vital to enable the organisation to operate efficiently and effectively. You will carry out patrolling duties both internally and externally, reporting any matters arising. We receive many visitors throughout the day, so we will look for you to ensure that they are given comprehensive and appropriate security advice.
The work that you will do is often physically demanding, so we do require a good level of fitness from you. The security team work on a 24 hour, 365 days a year basis and you will be required to work a continuous shift pattern of 4 days on and 4 days off throughout the year including weekends, bank holidays and public holidays in all weathers. Your shift pattern will consist of 12 hours worked on a rotation basis of either 6am - 6pm or 6pm to 6am.
You will be required to work at a number of DVLA sites: Morriston, Swansea Vale and Ty-Felin on a rota basis. You will be provided with a mandatory uniform and a high calibre of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) which must be worn on site at all times.
As a calm and focused person, you are dedicated to managing the effective delivery of an emergency response service. This is a crucial service that is capable of responding to people either in distress or at risk.
There will be a development opportunity for you to acquire the following mandatory essential skills and qualifications whilst in the role:
• First Aid
• Security guarding
• CCTV Operations (Public space surveillance)
• Emergency Officer/Fire Warden
• AED (Defibrillator)
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:
- Control/Security Room duties: Maintaining records and logs; Operating telephone and radio systems; inclusive of Operating and monitoring electronic access control systems; Operating and monitoring CCTV cameras on all Agency sites; Operating Body worn video, Intruder/fire alarm systems; Controlling, recording and issue of keys/found property and recording of security matters into security incident database
- Carrying out security functions in line with standard operating procedures and considering relevant risk assessments
- Carrying out scheduled testing of security/ safety systems and reporting issues for resolution to on duty security supervisor and service partner helpdesk
- Carry out patrolling duties both internally and externally, reporting any matters arising, taking action to mitigate/negate risk to people and agency assets
- Responding to unplanned events/ emergencies in line with standard operating procedures and direct coordination with Security Control

Additional Information
This role involves working outside in all weather conditions, standing for long periods so you will be provided with the correct PPE to carry out your duties.
There will be some travel involved with this role, you may be required to travel to other DVLA sites to carry out your duties. A Full UK valid driving licence is required.
Due to the nature of this role, you will be required to undergo a physical and medical screening if successful at the interview stage.
The role requires lone working and an operational level which may be remote from your manager. We need someone who is comfortable to act autonomously with sound judgement, sometimes for considerable periods of time.
