Provision of High Quality Care to Patients The post holder must: Be dentally qualified and maintain GDC registration Be listed on the GDC Oral Medicine specialist list Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation and reference to senior staff. Ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmedactivities Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views Clinical Governance The post holder must: Review clinical outcomes in designated area using external benchmarking data where appropriate, to identify and advise variances to the Clinical Director Participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and to ensure resulting actions are implemented Work closely with the Directorate, Patient and Public Involvement panels in relation to clinical and services developments as delegated by the Clinical Director Participate in ensuring NICE requirements are reviewed and implementedand monitored in the speciality areas Ensure clinical guidelines and protocols are adhered to by juniormedical/dental staff and updated on a regular basis Keep fully informed of best practice in the speciality areas and ensureimplications for practice changes are discussed with the Clinical Director Role model good practice for infection control to all members of themultidisciplinary team Research, Teaching and Training The post holder must: Collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trusts translational research portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of Research Governance Provide high quality teaching to dental undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by the Clinical Director Act as educational supervisor and appraiser as delegated by the ClinicalDirector to ensure external accreditation of training posts Performance Management The post holder must work with medical / dental, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas: Maintain clinical efficiency e.g. LOS reductions, reducing cancelledoperations and DNA rates Participate in financial management e.g. identification, implementation and achievement of cost improvement programmes to ensure services are provided cost effectively e.g. managing locum agency spend, monitoringand managing the drug budget to target, ensuring accuracy of clinical data for the team Help to improve operational efficiency e.g. waiting list activity and demand management Strategy and Business Planning The post holder must: Participate in the business planning and objective setting process for the directorate and Trust where appropriate Represent the Trust at appropriate clinical networks / other external clinical meetings, as delegated by the Clinical Director Medical / Dental Staff Management The post holder must: Work with colleagues to ensure junior doctors hours comply with EWTD and New Deal Ensure that adequate systems and procedures are in place to control and monitor leave for junior medical / dental staff and to ensure that there is appropriate cover within the clinical areas, including on-call commitments Participate in the recruitment of junior medical / dental staff as and when required Participate in team objective setting as part of the annual job planning cycle Be responsible for the annual appraisal of all doctors in training, Trustdoctors, Clinical Fellows and non-consultant grades as delegated by theClinical Director / General Manager Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable AdultsPost holders have a general responsibility for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults in the course of their daily duties and for ensuring that they are aware of the specific duties relating to their role. Post holders must maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business in accordance with the Data Protection Act of 1998 and Freedom of Information Act (FOI) 2005 Health and SafetyAll post holders have a responsibility, under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and subsequently published regulations, to ensure that the Trusts health and safety policies and procedures are complied with to maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors and employees.Sustainability It is the responsibility of all staff to minimise the Trusts environmental impact byrecycling wherever possible, switching off lights, computers monitors and equipmentwhen not in use, minimising water usage and reporting faults promptly.
