Job Title: Personal Care Assistant
Location: Leytonstone, London
Hourly Rate: £12.21 per hour
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 2 hours per week (with the possibility of up to 15 hours per week if staff are on leave/sick)
Days: 2-3 days per week (mostly afternoons)
Flexible working required for cover on leave or sick days
Preferred Languages: Punjabi, English, or Urdu


Job Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and reliable Personal Care Assistant (PCA) to support a vibrant and kind 25-year-old woman in her daily life. The ideal candidate will be patient, empathetic, and able to assist with a variety of tasks in a family-oriented home environment. The role involves offering personal care, assisting with activities, and providing support for general well-being.


Key Responsibilities:

• Personal Care Support:
o Assist with daily activities such as showering, dressing, and hand-washing, including physical prompts for hard-to-reach areas.
o Provide gentle prompting for tasks such as teeth brushing and moisturising (due to eczema and dry skin).
o Help with preparing and warming evening meals.
• Engagement and Activities:
o Support with activities such as Lego building, colouring, cutting, and other creative tasks.
o Assist in helping to identify areas of interest on the internet (e.g., spelling games, browsing for fun or educational content).
o Encourage focus and engagement in daily routines.
o Accompany on outings in the community, including trips to museums, shopping, parks, and dining out. If Client is unable to attend day activities to provide support at home.
• Communication & Support:
o Provide communication support, breaking down information to assist with processing difficulties.
o Support in maintaining focus during activities and ensuring safety, particularly in environments that may pose risks (e.g., crossing streets, uneven terrain).
o Help with navigating public transport (buses and trains).
• Health & Safety:
o Ensure safety and assist with identifying hazards, particularly due to challenges in risk perception and focus.
o Monitor and support her during outings, especially where there may be a potential to approach animals or other unexpected situations (e.g., birds, puddles, uneven ground).

Ideal Candidate Attributes:

• Polite, punctual, and reliable.
• Positive, engaging, and adaptable with a willingness to learn.
• Strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism.
• Trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality.
• Able to offer feedback when necessary, and report any areas of concern regarding activities or support.
• Must be flexible in their working hours and open to taking on additional hours (5-7 hours) on occasion if other staff are unavailable due to illness or leave.
• Should be patient, kind, and able to work with a vibrant young woman who enjoys pushing boundaries and learning new things.
• A clear communicator, especially with someone who may have processing difficulties and requires tasks to be broken down.

Additional Information:
• Training will be provided to ensure the successful candidate can complete tasks confidently.
• The applicant should ideally be local or from neighboring boroughs for convenience and ease of travel.
• The role requires flexibility as the individual may need additional care when the primary full-time carer is unavailable.
• The right candidate will be joining a supportive family environment that fosters learning and growth for both the care assistant and the individual receiving care
• DBS will be completed with Successful Applicant
• Probationary period to ensure applicants suitability
