Shepherd Neame is excited to be recruiting for an Apprentice Food and Beverage Team Member to join us. Located in Bearstead, near Maidstone, the Oak on the Green sits on one of the prettiest village greens in England. Founded in 1665, The Oake Inn, famous visitors to the pub include Baroness Orczy, creator of the Scarlet Pimpernel, and Kent leg spin bowler Alfred Percy 'Tich' Freeman. Today, the Oak on the Green is renowned for using largely local produce throughout the extensive food menu offering both British and Mexican cuisine. Are you ready to kickstart your career in hospitality with one of Britain’s oldest and most loved brewers? Shepherd Neame is on the lookout for enthusiastic, people-focused individuals to join our newly launched Hospitality Academy as Apprentice Front of House Team Members. Whether you’re fresh out of school, changing careers, or simply passionate about great service, this is your chance to earn while you learn in a vibrant, fast-paced environment — all while gaining a nationally recognised qualification through our expert training partner, HIT Training. WHATS IN IT FOR YOU?
As part of the apprenticeship journey, Level 2 Food & Beverage Team Member apprentices will attend workshops, meet with their tutor, learn new skills and knowledge via their online portfolio and be supported by their manager and Apprenticeship Lead. Specialist areas in hospitality include food and beverage service, serving alcoholic beverages, barista, food preparation, housekeeping, concierge and guest services, reception, reservations and conference and banqueting. The most important part of the role is developing fantastic hospitality skills and knowledge such as recognising customer needs, knowing how to match them to the products and services of the business and working as part of a team to ensure that every customer, whether they are eating in a restaurant, drinking cocktails in a bar, ordering room service in a hotel or attending a business conference, feels welcomed and looked after. Apprentices will have a vocational trainer assigned to them and will meet with their manager for regular progress reviews. What do we need from you?
Am I Eligible? If you can answer yes to the below you are eligible!
What are my next steps once I complete my apprenticeship? Once you have successfully completed this level 2 apprenticeship, this may progress into a supervisor or team leader role. Hospitality Supervisor Level 3 would be the most suitable apprenticeship course progression alongside our internal career pathway program. WHO ARE WE? Shepherd Neame may be Britain’s oldest brewer but our approach is anything but old-fashioned. We are an authentic, independent business, yet flexible and agile, and that has enabled us to survive and thrive based on the following Sheps Skills:
