Job Purpose The main purpose of the Simulation and Audio-visual Technician is to provide operational co-ordination of all technical aspects of clinical and non-clinical education within the simulation, clinical, classroom and virtual delivery learning environments across the organisation. The post holder supports the planning, testing and delivery of simulation pedagogies, acting as the subject matter expert in high-fidelity and Technology Enhanced Learning equipment, facilities and approaches. The post holder will work as part of the wider Education and Training Team in providing advanced audio-visual, multimedia, teleconferencing and facilities support to a range of training and conference events, as a customer facing member of the team. The Simulation and Audio-visual Technician is responsible for the operational management, maintenance, and risk assessment of simulation and technological equipment within the training facilities. The post holder oversees the training department intranet page and maintains a presence on social media in the promotion of Worcestershire acute NHS Trust as a centre of simulation training department. The department operates across all trust sites and the post holder will be expected to travel to different locations, where and when their role requires them to do so. Key Duties General Duties Provides technical and operational support before, during and after simulation training activities. Support simulation education facilitators in the operational management of teaching sessions and associated events, including participating in scenarios as required. Synthesise data for use in simulation pre-briefing and debriefing, including audio-visual recordings, and other measurable outcomes. Be the on-site subject matter expert in high-fidelity and Technology Enhanced Learning equipment and facilities, including mannequins, moulage, mixed reality equipment, audio-visual systems and simulation environments. Work alongside educational facilitators to design, plan, test and evaluate simulation learning activities and scenarios across the organisation. Provides technical support in the operation and troubleshooting of teleconferencing facilities across the training facilities to facilitate connectivity with external organisations and across the multiple sites. Operational management of simulation intranet page, and maintain a social media presence in the promotion of events and WAHT as a centre of simulation excellence. Ensure each piece of equipment displays user-friendly guidelines that meet Trust and supplier recommendations. Ensure all equipment is appropriately cleaned and stored after use, and maintain the highest standards of maintenance within the centres. Replenish all training devices after each session across the trust sites as delegated and replace consumables as required. Monitor the life span of the equipment and resources and make recommendations to the facilities and safety manager and business continuity manager for new purchases and upgrades to existing equipment Communication and Working Relationship Skills Provide and receive and exchange routine information to inform work colleagues, service users and suppliers. Work alongside educators across the organisation Integrated Care System to support the safe and effective delivery of inclusive simulation and clinical teaching activities and events. Provides front of house customer service during simulation events, demonstrating trust values, professional accountability and responsibility in all interactions. Contribute to the pre-briefing and debriefing process through the provision of feedback, feed forward, audio-visual recordings, and simulation scenario related data. Acts as a point of contact in relation to simulation facilities bookings across the department, working in compliance with the room booking protocol. Maintain effective relationships with external companies and contractors in line with service contract, with a high standard of confidentiality regarding all information held in respect to service users and trust business. Provides technical support to internal and external facilitators at conferences and events delivered within the training facilities. Communicates technical issues to senior team members, and explains technical issues to service users where there may be barriers to understanding. Engages with local and regional networks, committees and working groups related to simulation and Technology Enhanced Learning under guidance of Clinical Education Lead. Act as the voice of a patient in simulation teaching activities where required. Actively participate in team meetings and complete allocated actions. Participates in the induction of new team members, apprentices and students. Working relationship with the internal Informatics and IT Support Team. Collaborative relationship with simulation faculty in partner education. Analytical and judgemental skills Uses analytical skills to troubleshoot technical difficulties in the learning environments, providing expert advice on solution options, and problem solving minor faults and technical issues with hardware and software with the use of precision tools. Diagnose and escalating major faults to the Clinical Education Lead and/or centre manager. Analyses and provides data output from simulation teaching on request to inform audits, service improvement, research and learning outcomes. Interpret operational manuals. Planning and Organisational Skills Organisation of the simulation learning environment room booking system. Plan head to ensure resources and equipment required are booked from the equipment library and in-situ for teaching activities. Co-ordination of the simulation and audio-visual technologies ensuring they are prepared, powered and ready for use as required. Plans and organises straight forward maintenance tasks within scope of competence. Liaise with external companies to plan and schedule equipment servicing schedules and extraordinary call outs for repairs with minimal disruption to service delivery. Prioritises emergent technical faults. Responsibility for Policy / Service Development Audits equipment and facilities usage giving feedback on innovative Technology Enhanced Learning developments which may lead to service improvement or comment on policy development. Identifying areas for service improvement and development, and working with education facilitators and managers to implement new pedagogies, equipment, resources and facility modernisations. Responsibility for Finance, Equipment and Other Resources Responsible for the daily co-ordination of clinical and simulation training environments, including the planning, setting up, calibration, safe use, and break down of simulation sessions, sets, and clinical teaching activities. Maintains the simulation facilities, equipment, resources and assets, including co-ordination of the equipment library, ensuring risk assessments and user guides are up to date and that software and hardware is fit for purpose, calibrated, and up to date. Responsible for monitoring and replenishing sufficient stock, consumables and sundries in clinical and simulation teaching environments, ensuring safe cleaning and disposal of products of simulation, according to trust waste management policies. Responsible for the safe and secure storage of expensive simulation equipment and resources. Adheres to technical documentation and standard operating procedures for best practice use of equipment, resources and facilities. Reports faults of equipment, furniture, fixtures and fittings. Troubleshoot and diagnose minor faults. Raises requisitions on electronic procurement system and maintains financial records as relevant to their scope. Works with the Lead Nurse and Simulation Lead to co-ordinate financial implications of equipment and facilities maintenance. Mental, Physical, and Emotional Effort Frequent concentration for prolonged periods of time during the running of simulation training activities, and for fault finding, equipment inspections and repairs. Interruptions to work to deal with emergent issues. Frequent use of audio-visual equipment including electronic devices and monitors. Frequent moving and handling of simulation and clinical skills equipment and resources. Occasional requirement to exert intense physical effort for several short periods in the delivery of simulation teaching activities, such as transporting manikins and equipment to different locations as necessary. Emotional effort in the involvement with simulation scenarios depicting traumatic events and injuries including simulated patient death. Occasional distressing circumstances in the support of distressed learners in conjunction with colleagues. Occasional exposure to unpleasant odours, loud noises, and products of simulation.
