A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Haematologist with a lymphoma interestto join a friendly, enthusiastic team at UHDB. This is an 11-PA (10 plus 1APA) replacement post joining a large team of consultants. Additional PAs could be discussed upon successful interview.

The lymphoma team at UHDB currently comprises five Consultants: Dr Adrian Smith, Dr Meghna Ruparelia, Dr Jobanputra, Dr Rakesh, Dr Maria Ahmed and Dr Adeniyi Ajibade with plans in place to increase this. There is also an Associate Specialist in lymphoma – Dr Jai Lala, four lymphoma clinical nurse specialists and a clinical navigator. Lymphoma clinics are run three times per week, with on treatment, follow up and new patient streams.

In-patient therapies are provided on a dedicated, 18 bedded, haematology ward, providing BCSH level 2b care, including induction treatment and salvage therapies for high grade lymphomas. There is liaison with the regional transplant centre in Nottingham for autologous stem cell transplant, and Birmingham QE Hospital for CAR-T therapy. There is an active research program with participation in national phase 3 trials.

We are currently looking to recruit a lymphoma consultant to join the team. This is a full-time post based at the Royal Derby Hospital but any candidate who wishes to work less than full time will be considered and supported, taking into account service needs. Due to the Trust being a merged organisation there is a requirement to work across other sites.

The successful applicant will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for providing a comprehensive service in Clinical and Laboratory Haematology across Southern Derbyshire and South East Staffordshire, and will play an active part in decision making regarding the re-configuration of services in the Region.

The successful candidate will be actively involved in service development through innovation, restructuring and expansion of clinical trials and access to novel therapies.

• A variety of other staff benefits including employee assistance programme, discounted gym membership, onsite fitness classes, car schemes

Key Facts about our Trust:

• We see on average 4810 OP appointments per day.
• We are the 4th busiest Trauma & Orthopaedic outpatients department in England – an average of 2077 per week.
• An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day – 3rd largest in the country.
• Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily.
• Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres.
• We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres.

This is a replacement post for a Consultant Haematologist to develop our service across our hospital sites therefore we would welcome candidates who would like to develop a sub-specialist interest.
