Waffle+Coffee is a busy, independent café in the heart of Saffron Walden. We’re known for our bold, seasonal flavours, sweet and savoury waffles, and creative brunch plates that people travel for. The kitchen is calm, well organised and focused on consistency, quality and pride in every plate. We’re a small, friendly team with a reputation for excellent food and warm service, and we’re growing.
The Role:
We’re looking for a confident and capable Chef with solid experience in a professional kitchen who’s ready to take the next step. This is a great opportunity for someone who’s eager to develop, contribute ideas and be part of a growing team.
You’ll work closely with our Kitchen Manager and play a key role in the day-to-day running of the kitchen. From prep and service to training junior team members and supporting with stock and ordering, you’ll be hands-on across all areas. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, loves bold flavours and beautiful presentation, and thrives in a fast-paced, quality-led kitchen.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Cooking and plating a seasonal, creative brunch menu to a high standard
Running a section during service and supporting smooth kitchen operations
Helping with stock control, ordering and supplier communication
Keeping the kitchen clean, safe and well organised at all times
Collaborating with the Kitchen Manager on specials and new ideas
Contributing to a calm, respectful and hard-working kitchen culture
Who You Are:
An experienced Commis or Junior Sous ready to take the next step
Passionate about flavour, presentation and quality ingredients
Calm under pressure, reliable and well organised
A strong team player with good communication skills
Proud of your work and eager to keep learning and growing
Comfortable working on the line during busy services
Knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen safety essential
