Post Title: Lecturer in Games Design

FTE: 0.6 FTE (working 22.2 hours per week)
Duration of Contract: Permanent
Salary: UH7 £38,249pa (pro rata) with potential to progress to £45,413pa (pro rata) by annual increments
Annual Leave: 35 days pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

Main duties and responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching relevant video game design techniques and applications to BA 3D Games Art and Design students on the Digital Animation Programme. You will have a broad understanding of the current technical, professional and commercial contexts for video games design and of the ways practice is changing.

You will be proactive and ambitious with an excellent track record in one or more areas related to games design. You will maintain a clear sense of the development of the area and ensure the curriculum and teaching remain up to date. You will further develop and strengthen external relationships and partnerships with studios and other media organisations that will benefit students and staff and support the strategic objectives of the University and School.

You will be expected to inspire and intellectually challenge our students, developing and delivering a high-quality teaching and learning experience, and ensuring the successful and effective day to day running of modules. You will be expected to work closely with colleagues and the Programme Leader, in a collegial and proactive academic team, to provide an excellent student learning experience.

Skill and experience required
You will have significant relevant professional experience as a games designer (in either freelance or salaried positions) and of some of the current video games industry practices and digital production workflows. Ideally, you will have some experience of teaching and assessment at HE level but this is not essential. You must have an up to date and in-depth knowledge of commercial games design tools, techniques, processes and technologies together with an understanding of the structures, working practices and developing trends within the video games industries.

You must have good multimedia presentation skills for use in teaching and the design of learning materials, excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills and hold extensive professional networks in the games industry. You will have the ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently without close supervision and be proficient in English.

You will have expert level Unreal Engine User with knowledge of Blueprints visual scripting language and the ability to assist in at least some of the following: curriculum design, implementation, assessment and/or promotion of the Undergraduate course. You will take a proactive approach to continually learning new and emerging technical and creative skills and keeping up with current industry practice, as well as demonstrating good IT skills related to professional practice. You must be able to organize yourself and others and be adaptable to change and flexible to workload and team requirements.

Qualifications required
You must hold an undergraduate degree, or equivalent level 6 qualification, in a relevant discipline.
