The UK Space Agency (UKSA) is an executive agency of the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT) and provides technical advice on the government’s space strategy, supporting the UK space sector to deliver the government’s vision.

This is a business critical, high-profile role on the UK Space Agency Corporate Security Team, providing leadership and assurance on all aspects of safety and security; including physical, personnel, cyber, technology and information security standards and Health & Safety.

We are looking for a high performing security professional with a passion and commitment to making a difference, maintaining high standards, delivering a high quality service and supporting all areas of the business.

Working closely with Government security colleagues, including the National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) and the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), you will understand the key security threats to the Agency and wider government, using this information to manage the risks to Agency business, people and estate.

You will advise Agency staff on how to best manage security risks affecting their business areas.

You will act as an intelligent customer, actively engaging with Government Security shared services providers including building landlords, travel, IT & vetting providers to ensure standards of critical security services are maintained across all business areas, activities and offices.

You will assist build a culture of safety & security across the Agency to ensure that staff consider and embed effective safety & security practices from the outset of projects. With your expertise we can be sure that the safety & security needs of the Agency will be met.

This job role may be suitable for hybrid working, which is an informal, non-contractual and voluntary arrangement, blending a balance of attendance in the workplace  If you are successful, any opportunities for hybrid working will be discussed with you prior to you taking up your post.

Key Responsibilities

● Being a visible role model for security behaviours across the Agency,

● Acting as a security professional, championing and sharing best practice through the wider Government Security community, utilising trend analysis and data interpretation,

● Setting and ensuring Agency compliance with security standards and policies and embedding a culture of security awareness and compliance,

● Providing expert advice and guidance to Agency staff on safety & security matters,

● Providing expert input to the investigation of security breaches and health & safety matters,

● Reporting to Exco, Audit & Risk Assurance Committee and senior department heads on safety & security issues,

● Deputising for the Security Advisor, representing the Agency at Government Security and Health & Safety meetings as necessary,

● Providing assurance to the Security Advisor and to Cabinet Office via the Departmental Security Health Check that security risks are being identified, managed and mitigated effectively through appropriate security controls,

● Acting as an intelligent customer, establishing the need for and requesting and monitoring services from Government Security shared services providers,

● Supporting the Security Advisor as the “competent person” under the Health & Safety at Work Act, ensuring compliance with Agency Health & Safety Policy, recognising hazards and ensuring controls are in place,

● Setting and ensuring an effective Travel Risk Management process, to manage Agency responsibilities and the risks to staff from overseas travel,

● Leading on the coordination of safety & security at all Agency led public events,

● Providing line management support & operational guidance to the Corporate Security Team, including goal setting, performance reviews & career development,

● Effectively managing the Corporate Security budget to areas of greatest security risk,

● Ensuring compliance with statutory and legal provisions as set out in the UK Space Agency’s policies and procedures. In particular in relation to: Financial Regulations, Equal Opportunities and Diversity, Health and Safety, Civil Service Code, Data Protection & the Official Secrets Act.

● Complying with the behaviours and standard requisites as relevant to your post as detailed in your job description, person specification and take responsibility for continuing self-development, participating in training and development activities as required or requested by your line manager.

● Attending meetings as required, some of which may be outside of normal working hours.

● Regular travel to our UK offices and our stakeholder’s premises.

This role requires Developed Vetting security clearance.
