JOB DESCRIPTION
Role Title: Youth Engagement Volunteer
Organisation: Wonderful Gospel Ministries (WGM)
Location: Birmingham, United Kingdom
Duration: Temporary – up to 12 months
Compensation: Unpaid voluntary role. Basic support such as accommodation or subsistence may be provided, in line with UKVI guidelines for charity workers.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Wonderful Gospel Ministries is looking for friendly, patient and non-judgemental individuals to support our youth outreach efforts. As a Youth Engagement Volunteer, you will help facilitate weekly youth group sessions and support young people’s personal and spiritual development in a safe, welcoming environment.
This role supports our charitable objective to engage, uplift, and empower young people in our local community, many of whom face social challenges.
KEY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
•Creating a warm and inclusive atmosphere for youth attendees.
•Supporting youth during group activities and discussions.
•Ensuring young people feel heard and involved in the session.
•Referring any concerns about welfare to designated safeguarding staff, as outlined in your training.
•Providing general support to church staff and volunteers during church gatherings to ensure a smooth and welcoming experience for all.
All activities will be carried out under supervision. This is a voluntary role and does not involve any form of employment.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Formal qualifications are not required – full training and support will be provided.
To be effective in this role, we ask that you:
•Have a warm and friendly approach and make others feel at ease.
•Are committed to supporting young people to make positive life choices.
•Are non-judgemental and respectful of different backgrounds and beliefs.
•Can maintain appropriate boundaries and follow safeguarding procedures.
•Are a good listener and can remain calm in challenging situations.
•Are open to feedback and reflective practice.
•Have basic literacy and communication skills.
•Are willing to follow the organisation’s policies on health and safety, safeguarding, and confidentiality.
IMPORTANT NOTES
•No salary or employment contract will be offered.
•The role exists to support the charity’s work and provide volunteers with a meaningful placement.
•Support (such as meals or accommodation) may be offered where needed, in line with charity and immigration rules.
