Your Role
Over the next few months, we will have several exciting opportunities coming up working across a range of impactful programme areas and our Project Managers will play a pivotal part in helping us ensure successful project and programme delivery.
As a Project Manager, you will have a detailed understanding of project management methodology and processes to enable you to carry out the role successfully. You will be responsible for the management and delivery of projects to time, cost and quality. You can work independently to achieve the business objectives while also supporting the broader project management community.
This role is a career graded post, and we have both Level 1 and Level 2 Project Manager roles available. You will be supported through your development and progression within the levels, providing a great opportunity for you to continuously develop and progress within the role.
This is hybrid role where you will be expected to work in the office and/or onsite a minimum of 2 days per week.

Welcome to Projects Group, part of Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) - we are responsible for ensuring the organisation has firm foundations to successfully develop and deliver a large, complex and technically diverse portfolio of capital and revenue projects and programmes across Greater Manchester - on time, within budget and with the customer at the heart of what we do!!
Our extensive portfolio of projects and programmes covers a significant number of areas within the different modes of transport infrastructure throughout Greater Manchester including Bus infrastructure, Metrolink, Rail, Electrification, Interchanges, Zero Emissions, Clean Air, Active Travel and Business Change just to name a few!
What you’ll bring

As a Project Manager (Level 1), you will be educated to degree level or have equivalent level of experience in a project and programme management environment. You will have a demonstrable track record of successfully delivering projects and programmes simultaneously to time, cost and relevant standard.
In addition, you will demonstrate financial awareness, and budget management expertise and be able to successfully compile clear and concise technical and non-technical reports, adapting your approach for different audiences such as political, professional and lay persons.
With your strong communication and engagement skills; you will be able to develop effective work relationships with stakeholders at varying levels both internal and external to the organisation. You will be able to develop and implement stakeholder management strategies, including negotiation and presentation skills, in a project or programme environment.
In addition, we are also looking for some experienced Project Managers (Level 2), to be successful in this role you will possess all of the essential criteria above and have practical experience of managing people in a similar environment. You will also possess specific industry experience and/ or technical skills and knowledge that is specific to each of our Programme areas (as outlined below).
Rail /Light Rail Capital Programme
- You will have proven experience of rail infrastructure standards, and processes particularly those governing infrastructure change, and/or experience of managing complex projects in challenging environments supported by a strong understanding of standard forms of contract.
- You will have experience of working on light rail or heavy rail schemes either in design, management, or the delivery of on-site works.
Customer & Growth
You will have experience of planning and delivering complex change programmes, ideally within a transport or public sector environment.

The salary for this role ranges from £40,650-£52,866 per annum, depending on your skills and experience.
