Role: Teaching Assistant Location: Leigh on Mendip School / Part of the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership Start Date: 1st September 2025 Closing Date: Sunday 13th July Interview Date: Wednesday 16th July Hours: Term Time plus 2 inset days. 8.30am - 3.30pm. 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday Salary: Grade 3 SCP 5 - 7 £24,790 - £25,584Are you passionate about making a difference in young people's lives? Leigh on Mendip School is looking for a dedicated and caring Teaching Assistant to join our team and help create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all pupils. As a Teaching Assistant, you’ll work under the guidance of teaching staff to deliver support programmes, facilitate access to learning, and help manage classroom activities. You will play a vital role in supporting both pupils and teachers, contributing to a safe, productive and caring school environment. This position offers variety and responsibility both inside and outside of the classroom.
Key Responsibilities Supporting Pupils: Provide care and supervision, attending to personal, social, and health needs. Support pupils with special educational needs, developing knowledge of individual strategies and targets. Encourage participation, interaction, independence, and self-esteem. Offer constructive feedback and contribute to student progress monitoring. Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions as needed.
Supporting Teachers: Assist in preparing and maintaining a purposeful learning environment. Help plan activities, manage resources, and record pupil achievements. Promote positive behaviour and deal with incidents in line with school policy. Offer administrative support including photocopying, filing, and data input. Assist with pastoral duties and tutor support.
Supporting the Curriculum: Deliver and adapt planned learning activities to suit pupil needs. Support the development of literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills. Use a variety of tools and approaches to enhance learning and independence.
