Summary
Are you the kind of person who sees potential where others see problems?
Do you believe that a little support can go a long way—and that every student deserves a champion in their corner?
We’re looking for an ALS Student Mentor to join our Learning Support team and help students overcome barriers, build resilience, and thrive in education and beyond. This role is 29 hours per week, working term time. This role will be based at North Star or Queens Drive.
You will be: Supporting students from Year 10 transition reviews all the way to their next steps—whether that’s university, employment, or supported work. Providing tailored pastoral support to a caseload of learners, many with Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs). Attending school reviews, open events, and planning smooth transitions into college life. Acting as a key liaison between students, families, college staff, and external agencies. Making informed referrals and signposting students to the right support at the right time. Keeping accurate records and contributing to safeguarding, retention, and student wellbeing.
You will need: A calm, empathetic, and motivational approach to mentoring. Experience working with young people with additional learning needs. Excellent communication and organisational skills. Confidence in working independently and collaboratively. A Level 2 qualification in literacy, numeracy, and ICT (or a willingness to work towards them). A genuine passion for helping students stay on track and achieve their goals.
At New College Swindon, we don’t just support students—we empower them. You’ll be part of a team that makes a real difference every day, helping learners navigate challenges and celebrate successes. If you’re ready to be a steady hand, a listening ear, and a positive influence, we’d love to meet you. Ready to mentor, motivate and make a difference? Apply now and help shape brighter futures—one student at a time.
Benefits: 5.3 weeks holiday paid in salary, 21.7% College pension contribution to LGPS, health care cash plan, free car parking, discounted Hair & Beauty, on-site gym, staff development & training, Pluxee Retail Discount Scheme, and more!
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sectors of the community.
Please note that this vacancy may close before the published closing date if sufficient applications are received so if you are interested, please apply as soon as possible. To apply, you MUST have Right to Work in the UK.
