I am looking to recruit an experienced Early Year Specialist Teacher to be the interim Nursery Lead Teacher at an 'outstanding' primary school in Stockport (4 Days Per Week) for the Autumn Term initially.

A Nursery Lead Teacher in the UK has responsibilities including
leading and managing a team, planning and delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, and ensuring a high standard of early years education and care.
They also play a crucial role in supporting the professional development of other staff members.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Delivery:
    Planning, implementing, and assessing the EYFS curriculum, ensuring it is engaging and appropriate for all children.

  • Team Leadership:
    Leading, motivating, and supporting a team of nursery practitioners, providing guidance and supervision.

  • Staff Development:
    Supporting the professional development of other staff members through mentoring, coaching, and training.

  • Safeguarding:
    Ensuring the safety and well-being of all children, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures.

  • Parent Communication:
    Building positive relationships with parents and providing regular updates on their child's progress.

  • Health and Safety:
    Maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment.

  • Record Keeping:
    Maintaining accurate records of children's learning and development.

  • Collaboration:
    Working effectively with other professionals, such as SENCOs, to provide individualised support.

  • Vision and Values:
    Promoting the nursery's vision and values.


Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Early Years Qualification:
    A relevant qualification such as QTS, Early Years Professional Status, or Early Years Teacher Status.

  • Experience:
    Experience of working with children aged 2-5, leading a team, and supporting staff.

  • Knowledge:
    A strong understanding of the EYFS framework, child development, and how children learn.

  • Communication Skills:
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Organisational Skills:
    Strong planning, organisational, and time management skills.

  • Interpersonal Skills:
    The ability to build positive relationships with children, parents, and colleagues.

  • Leadership Qualities:
    The ability to motivate, inspire, and support others.

  • Safeguarding Knowledge:
    A thorough understanding of local safeguarding procedures.


In addition to these core responsibilities, some Lead Teacher roles may also involve:

  • Subject Leadership:
    Leading a specific subject area within the nursery.

  • SEN Support:
    Supporting the SENCO in meeting the needs of children with special educational needs.

  • School-wide Initiatives:
    Contributing to school-wide decisions and initiatives.

  • Mentoring:
    Mentoring and supporting other teachers and practitioners.
