Machine Shop Supervisor
Full Time, 40 Hours

£16.50 - £18.00 p/h
Our client is a growing and ambitious manufacturer – and they are looking for someone with a collaborative mindset to oversee the daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring production targets are met safely, efficiently, and to required quality standards. They will be responsible for supervising and motivating the team, managing workflow, and driving continuous improvement.
Main Responsibilities
• Supervision and team management
• Lead, motivate, and manage a team of machinists, setters, and operators.
• Allocate workload and resources effectively to meet production schedules.
• Conduct team briefings and provide regular feedback to staff.
• Identify training needs and coordinate skills development.
• Production planning & workflow.
• Plan daily and weekly production activities in line with demand and capacity
• Monitor progress and adjust priorities where necessary.
• Ensure all jobs are completed on time and meet quality expectations.
• Liaise with planning, engineering, and maintenance teams.
• Stock control.
• Ensure stocks of raw materials are accurate and counted to agreed schedule.
• Ensure consumables are stored correctly and replenished as required.
• Quality and safety
• Ensure adherence to quality standards and inspection processes.
• Conduct root cause analysis of defects and implement corrective actions.
• Promote a safe working environment and ensure compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
• Lead risk assessments and enforce safe work practices.
Person Specification
• Must be educated to GCSE level or has equivalent qualifications or experience.
• Must have previous work in a machine shop environment using lathes, milling machines, etc.
• Proven experience supervising a machine shop
• Must have excellent knowledge of machining processes (manual and CNC)
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings and specifications.
• Strong leadership and team building abilities.
• Capable of using own initiative
• Self-Motivated
• Committed to excellence.
