The highly successful Schools, Colleges, and Outreach team within Future Students is seeking to appoint an Outreach and Engagement Officer to lead and deliver its progression activity with schools and colleges in the Newport and Gwent regions. A key element of the role will be to maintain and develop key relationships with internal and external stakeholders (such as Coleg Gwent colleagues, Newport and Gwent schools and City of Newport Council) and to deliver and support the strategy for recruitment to the University’s Newport campus, as well as recruitment of students from the Gwent region. The post-holder will encourage progression to USW and highlight opportunities for further study at Level Four in the City. The successful candidate will deliver outreach and engagement activity focused in Newport, and will grow awareness of the careers and employment in Newport that links to USW and Coleg Gwent provision.

Under the leadership of a Senior Welsh-medium and Widening Participation Outreach Officer, the role will involve delivering presentations and workshops to large audiences of students, parents, teachers, and community organisations as well as organising events and outreach activities for students from Newport and the Gwent region, to provide an insight into life and studying at USW.

The Outreach and Engagement Officer will be responsible for the line management of the Assistant Outreach and Engagement Officer, providing day-to-day guidance, support, and supervision. They will also offer strategic direction to ensure the team’s work aligns with wider departmental goals and priorities.

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding communicator, who is passionate about breaking down the barriers to higher education and supporting access and progression to the University of South Wales. The post will be based within a dynamic, fast-paced team and will involve working across a range of marketing functions. The successful applicant will have outstanding organisational and interpersonal skills, be able to innovate and forge partnerships, have experience of delivering activities for young people, and be flexible and hard-working. Please note that the ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable for the role.

The position is based at Newport Campus of the University of South Wales; however, the post-holder will be expected to work from other campuses and from home when required. Please note that extensive travel is required as part of this role, and the post-holder will be required to work weekends and evenings.

This is a full time, fixed term for one year up until 31st July 2026. Benefits on offer include 35 days’ annual leave, plus bank holidays and closure days, family-friendly policies and a generous pension scheme.

If you are a successful candidate and this position will be your first professional services role at the University (or you are currently employed by PSS Ltd), you will be employed by Professional and Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of South Wales, which provides services to the University and Colleges.
