Do you have experience with electrical systems in commercial buildings and managing suppliers?
Would you say you're self-motivated and able to handle pressure in a fast-paced environment?
If so, we would love to hear from you!
We’re looking for a dynamic and technically skilled professional to join our Estates team as a Senior Electrical Maintenance Manager. In this newly created role, you'll lead the assurance of processes and standards related to mechanical and electrical building services.
As a key member of the team, you'll support colleagues across a broad range of engineering and technical issues, with a particular focus on managing critical asset risks—including fire safety systems, water hygiene, asbestos, gas safety, electrical infrastructure, lifts, and ventilation systems.
You’ll play a central role in maintaining the integrity of our electrical systems, ensuring operational compliance and safety. You’ll also oversee the performance and delivery of engineering service providers, working within agreed budgets and contractual frameworks.
Your expertise will help ensure that our critical systems operate efficiently, reliably, and in full compliance with all relevant regulations. You’ll advise project and maintenance teams on electrical infrastructure and legislation, and lead investigations into electrical incidents and faults when they occur.
This is a rare and exciting opportunity to drive consistency in electrical policy and assurance across our unique and varied commercial estates. You’ll exemplify technical excellence, sharing knowledge, mentoring others, and helping to embed a culture of compliance, safety, and resilience across our three estates: Morriston, Swansea Vale and Fforestfach.
Due to the nature of the role, flexibility and adaptability are essential. You may be required to support the business outside of normal working hours, including evenings and weekends, as part of an on-call rota—for which an allowance will be paid. Similarly, as DVLA estates are spread across multiple sites, a full, valid UK driving licence is essential.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:
- Preparation of Specifications to advise and inform commercial procurement of services and project delivery via the Contract and other available Commercial Frameworks
- Reporting against H&S, budget, performance, risks, dependencies, and mitigating actions
- Acting as a liaison point for the contract provider and professional advisors on new projects when raising commissions / feasibility studies
- Providing effective management relating to the estate day to day matters affecting the efficient running of the Agency’s sites
- Being responsible for reporting of regular and timely information to the G7 Head of hard services and/or G6 Head of Estates
- Optimising electrical asset lifespans and minimising failure though maintenance planning, including the balancing of planned, condition based and reactive maintenance
- Managing the Hard services supplier regarding all Electrical Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance works including projects and life-cycle replacement
- Providing advice on asset condition. Initial point of contact for complaints and issues in relation to Electrical services
For further information about the role please see the attached role profile.
Additional Information
This role will require you to work full time on site.
Applications will be accepted from full time/part time/job sharers. Full time roles at DVLA consist of 37 hours per week. Part time and/or flexible working may also be available subject to the needs of the business. If you have a flexible or part time working requirement, you should contact the vacancy holder in advance of making an application to avoid possible disappointment later in the process should your desired working arrangements not be compatible with the requirements of the role. To contact the vacancy holder, please use the job contact details listed under ‘Contact point for applicants’.
