About the College/Department
The College of Health, Psychology and Social Care has a clear vision – to make a REAL difference to the lives of individuals, families and communities within our region. To be the University of choice for our Health and Social Care partners’ education needs across the region; and to provide an excellent student experience, delivered by highly credible and well qualified lecturers.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery is part of the College of Health, Psychology, and Social Care at the University of Derby. The School consists of four discipline areas: Adult Nursing, Mental Health and Learning Disability Nursing, Midwifery, Children's Nursing and Professional Practice, and Associate and Enhanced Healthcare Practice.

Our vision is clear - to create a vibrant, inclusive, and future-facing School that cultivates the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care. The School of Nursing and Midwifery has a long-standing reputation for excellence and is home to some of the University of Derby's most popular degrees. Across undergraduate and postgraduate level, we have a variety of courses to offer.

Many on our academic team are active researchers working hard to advance knowledge in different areas of healthcare and the human sciences. Research topics related to Midwifery include ‘how air pollution could affect the growth of the placenta’ and the experience of mothers who breastfeed beyond infancy. Our researchers integrate their findings into their teaching and examine how this might affect service users.

We have ambitious strategies in place to deliver an outstanding student experience, a culture of internationally important research and scholarship, and transformational partnerships with our collaborators across the health and care systems of Derbyshire and beyond.
