What's involved with this role:
Contract Type: Temporary
The role: We are seeking an experienced Head of Health & Safety to lead and manage the Council’s Health & Safety function. Reporting to the Assistant Director of HR, you will be responsible for delivering expert advice and driving compliance across the organisation. You will manage a team of safety professionals, ensuring all statutory responsibilities are met through audits, investigations, and strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver high-level H&S support aligned to corporate objectives.
Lead and manage a team ensuring high performance and compliance.
Develop policies, systems, and audit frameworks.
Ensure alignment with legal and statutory obligations.
Manage emergency responses as required.
What the client is looking for:
Demonstrable experience in Health & Safety leadership within a large organisation.
Active DBS
Proven success in managing change, compliance, and performance.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Corporate membership of IOSH and registration as a Safety Practitioner.
Able to work flexibly and attend emergency situations if needed.
Experience in local government or similarly complex settings.
Evidence of managing budgets and delivering value for money.
