Crynodeb

Home Office Cyber Security (HOCS) plays a vital role in safeguarding the UK’s national interests by protecting sensitive information, critical systems, and public services from cyber threats. Operating within the Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) directorate, HOCS is structured into specialised teams that collectively oversee governance, risk management, assurance, operations, and strategic leadership

We are seeking a strategic leader to shape the future of Cyber Security at the Home Office. As Head of Role, you will be central to our digital transformation—championing secure delivery across critical services and building capability across Cyber Security roles. You will foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

In this pivotal role, you will set the strategic direction for Cyber Security capability across the organisation, offering expert guidance to service teams, stakeholders, and senior leaders. Acting as an ambassador across government, you will share insight, influence policy, and promote best practice to strengthen the profession.

As the Head of Role, your main day-to-day responsibilities will be to;

  • Lead the Cyber Security community of practice by fostering an inclusive environment for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
  • Engage across government, working with Heads of Cyber Role in other departments to share insights and strengthen the profession.
  • Drive recruitment and retention, developing consistent job descriptions, career pathways, and skills frameworks to attract and grow talent.
  • Support workforce planning by identifying resourcing needs, upskilling staff, and enabling effective recruitment.
  • Promote Cyber Security awareness, working with stakeholders and senior leaders to embed a culture of excellence and strategic alignment.
  • Develop learning and development plans that support professional growth and align with a common skills framework.
  • Embed standards and assure quality, defining best practices and supporting high performance across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Champion thought leadership, raising the profile of Cyber Security through external engagement, knowledge sharing, and innovation.

Due to the requirements of the role, the successful candidates will be required to work full-time (37 hours per week).
