We are excited to be advertising Advanced Paramedic Practitioner (APP) postvacancies inCheshireandMersey, Greater Manchester, and Cumbria and Lancashire; vacancieswill beavailable inall threeNWAS areas.

TheAPPis responsible forface-to-face clinicalcareat an advanced practice level in unscheduled emergency care, responding to emergencies on a response vehicle as an autonomous solo practitionertoourmostunwellandcomplexpatients.In addition to front-line response, APPs areexpected toworkatthe Integrated Contact Centrewithinthe Complex Incident Hubteam, where they willidentifyandreviewcomplex incidents andcoordinatethedispatchofspecialistclinical resources.APPs also offerremoteclinicaladviceand supporttocrewson scene,oftento supporttime-criticalandclinicaldecisionmaking.

APPs willprovidea face-to-face response as an advancedcliniciantocomplex incidents, including but not limited toserious trauma, cardiac arrests, acute life-threatening medical conditions, complex mental health, and maternity emergencies.APPs enhance our organisational response to significant and major incidents, supporting clinical leadership tasks as part of our incident response.


APPs will provide 24/7 coverageacross a defined geographical area, although may be deployed to calls across the entire NWAS region.Postholderswilloperateas an autonomous practitioner utilising an advanced scope of practice anddemonstratingclinical leadership and co-ordination skills in dealing with incidents or events, which may include liaison with ambulance service managers, other emergency services, specialist teams, and other healthcare professionals.


Thereisa process of formalinternal and externaleducation and training for this role.An MScinadvanced practiceis essential for the APP role; however,applications are invited from those who have notyetachievedanMSc, but who areableto undertake higher educationat level 7while in post.


Candidateswho are shortlisted will be invited to completean onlineclinicalknowledge assessment(multiple dateoptions in August). If successful, candidates will be invited toanin-personassessment centre on either 15th or 22nd September 2025, please ensure you will be available to attend on either date before applying.


North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
