Part Time Cleaner needed, Cheam, £13.50 per hour, 18 hours per week
St Andrews United Reformed Church, (postcode SM2 7HF and located on the S2 bus route connecting Epsom, Ewell, Cheam, Sutton and St Helier at the corner of Northey Avenue and The Avenue, Cheam) seeks a part-time cleaner to work regular hours six days a week with some flexibility at weekends and during school holiday periods.
18 hours a week with some opportunities for additional time; cleaning equipment and materials are of course provided. More details below:
We are looking for someone who really enjoys creating the uplifting effect that a clean building and facilities can have on those who use them, to continue the good work done by our existing cleaner who is moving away.
Our Church and Halls are used by more than a thousand people of all ages throughout the week, from babies and small children (we own and run a pre-school and have many other children’s activities on site), the Sutton Schools orchestra with its hugely talented young people, through to the local Fine Arts and photographic societies catering for mainly older people, and numerous other organisations and groupings. We want them all to find (and leave) the facilities in a good state and we want to find someone who recognises how important clean buildings and facilities are to those who come into and then use them.
The job is part time but regular, and it involves a variety of cleaning tasks over an 18-hour week. Because our Halls are used to a significant extent by children of school age, the school holidays are much quieter and allow time for catching up on occasional major ‘spring cleaning’ type tasks, as well as allowing some reduction in the frequency of regular cleaning. We expect our Hall users to tackle some tasks such as moving table and chairs, but the part time cleaner will also find themselves helping with those regular tasks too.
There is a detailed schedule of the tasks involved, showing which are daily, which twice a week, those that are weekly and monthly, and those that are even less frequent, but which need to be done during the year. Part of the time the work is carried out alone, but some of the work is done with others associated with the Church and its activities. This is a job for someone personable, effective and honest, who can work well with others but is sufficiently self-motivated to work well alone too.
