A Welcoming and Inclusive Community

Shawclough Primary School is a vibrant and inclusive learning environment where children thrive. We pride ourselves on our caring ethos, collaborative leadership team, and supportive governing body. Our wonderful children and families are passionate about education, and we are committed to providing ongoing professional development opportunities for our staff. Despite facing significant challenges, such as declining attainment on intake, language barriers, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, our dedicated team has worked tirelessly to ensure our children receive the support and resources they need to succeed. We have embraced a range of initiatives, from enhancing our early years curriculum to providing mental health and well-being support, to address these barriers and help our learners reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the school and its grounds are secure, including during out-of-hours periods, and take appropriate remedial actions as required.
  • Act as a designated key holder, providing out-of-hours and emergency access to the school site.
  • Procure quotes for routine maintenance work on the school premises.
  • Contribute to the management of the premises budget.
  • Oversee and manage other site staff, including cleaning staff and groundskeepers.
  • Operate and regularly check systems such as heating, cooling, lighting, and security (including CCTV and alarms).
  • Undertake minor repairs and maintenance of the buildings and site.
  • Arrange emergency repairs and regular maintenance and safety checks.
  • Oversee on-site maintenance contractors, ensuring work is completed to the required standards and within the specified timescales.
  • Monitor materials and stock, and order supplies as needed.
  • Perform general portage duties, including moving furniture and equipment within the school.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including COSHH, and report any serious hazards to the line manager immediately.
  • Conduct regular health and safety checks of the buildings, grounds, fixtures, fittings, and equipment, in line with other schedules.
  • Handle small amounts of cash for the purchase of materials to carry out repairs.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant experience in a similar site management or facilities management role, preferably within an educational setting.
  • Excellent knowledge of building maintenance, health and safety, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Proficient in the use of IT systems and building management software.
  • A flexible and proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.

Why Join Shawclough Primary School?

  • A welcoming and caring ethos that values the well-being of both children and staff.
  • A collaborative and driven Senior Leadership Team, committed to supporting your professional development.
  • A supportive and active Governing Body, dedicated to the success of the school.
  • Wonderful children and families who are passionate about education.
  • Access to a wide range of health and well-being services to support your personal and professional needs.
