Location: Unit 9 Sandgate Street, Southwark, SE15
Contract Type: Temporary | 21 July – 13 October 2025
Hours: 36 hours/week | Mon–Fri, 08:00–15:00
Rate: £15.39/hour PAYE | £19.96/hour Umbrella
️ About the Role
Due to increased workload, Southwark Council is looking for a dedicated Cleaning Operative to help keep our estates and streets clean, safe, and welcoming. You'll play a key role in maintaining the hygiene and security of communal areas across our borough.
This hands-on role is perfect for someone who takes pride in their work, values teamwork, and is committed to making Southwark a cleaner place for everyone.
Your Key Responsibilities
Clean internal and external communal areas including corridors, stairwells, lobbies, refuse stores, and courtyards
Use appropriate materials and equipment to sweep, mop, scrub, and wash walls, floors, and windows
Remove litter, leaves, snow, and refuse as required
Empty litter bins and rotate paladin stores
Clean spillages and other deposits as directed
Ensure cleaning materials and equipment are safely maintained and stored
Attend training sessions for new procedures or equipment
Requirements
Previous experience in cleaning or facilities work preferred
Good understanding of Health & Safety and manual handling procedures
Ability to work independently and follow instruction
Committed to maintaining cleanliness and community standards
Must uphold council policies on Equality, Diversity, and Health & Safety
