Job title: Personal Assistant
Location: Llanon, Ceredigion
Hours of work: 8 hours per week - one day a week
Rate of pay: £15 per hour
I am a 59-year-old blind lady with learning disabilities who wishes to employ a personal assistant to take me out in the community and to engage in activities.
Applicants should have experience of working with individuals who have multiple learning disabilities. A sense of humour is a great help in relating to me. I have a great sense of fun!
I can walk short distances with support but rely on a manual wheelchair for longer distances or prolonged standing. Therefore, applicants should be comfortable pushing a wheelchair.
As my PA, you will play a key part in developing and maintaining my independence. You will be taking me out for the day and supporting me to access my local communities and amenities. This will provide my main carers with a break from their caring responsibilities.
You will help me to develop my social skills by supporting me when interacting with others, e.g. attending MENCAP Gateway club, Ray Ceredigion or a wider variety of social engagements. I particularly enjoy music and can sing numerous songs. Water play, and music events are also things I like. It would be beneficial if applicants have a knowledge of such groups and activities, or can seek them out, so I can try out new experiences.
As part of this role, you will be required to assist me with toileting, ensuring I am able to use the facilities to the best of my ability, and that I am clean afterwards.
When visiting a café, my PA will need to ensure I do not eat too quickly or messily. Support may also be required to attend self-care appointments such as the hairdresser.
If you think you can help me, please consider applying for the position.
