Job Title: Personal Care Assistant
Responsible to: Directly accountable to and taking direction from the employer (parents)
Hours: Variable working hours (to be discussed at interview stage)
Part time positions available
Hourly Rate of Pay: £14.11
Based at: Employers home in Tilehurst, Reading.
Job Purpose
To work 1:1 with a young adult, who has a rare generic condition that causes dystonia (uncontrollable muscle movements). The young adult is nonverbal and communicates using his ipad. The family are looking for someone to build a trusting relationship with him, so that they can support him with his daily living needs, personal care, and social engagement. He is currently nil-by-mouth and is fed a blended diet, through his PEG.
Main duties
To support with:
- On occasions support with personal care
- Assisting medication via PEG
- Assisting with meals and fluids via PEG
- Rehabilitation
- Taking the young person out to appointments, hydrotherapy, school / placements.
- To encourage and assist the gentleman with social engagement / activities such as attending SEN workshops etc.
- To support the gentleman when in his wheelchair
- To report any issues to the young person’s parents
- Supervision is required at all times.
- To perform such other duties as may reasonably be required.
Personal Specification
• An experience of working with young adults, would be preferable.
• Flexible in the hours and times that you can work.
• Have a good sense of humour and enjoy a friendly joke.
• Be patient and supportive.
• Be honest, reliable, and trustworthy.
• Understand the need for privacy and confidentiality.
• You should have a thorough understanding of personal safety.
• Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• A willingness to undergo any training highlighted by the employer.
• You should have some knowledge and understanding of risks.
• Have an awareness and knowledge of equal opportunities.

- This post is subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check at the Employers request prior to commencing employment. This is confidential and at no cost to yourself.
- The post carries a 6 month’s probationary period, due to the nature of it being a term time holiday position.
