Autonomously assess, diagnose, treat, and transport or refer a range of patients with a variety of conditions when responding to emergency medical calls, whilst ensuring, both personal safety and the safety of others. Where appropriate, convey patients according to the nature and severity of their condition to an appropriate receiving centre or following agreed alternative care pathways. Carry out paramedic duties in line with the post holders scope of practice and commensurate with national Joint Royal Colleges Ambulance Liaison Committee (JRCALC) clinical practice guidelines and States of Jersey Ambulance Service specific PGDs and policy. As appropriate, provide packages of care to patients at home or on route to a receiving centre, liaising with other allied health professionals. Provide guidance to patients if they are discharged on scene to ensure they have access to ongoing support if required. To continually evaluate and give advice to patients and others. This will include: Handling and administering drugs and controlled drugs. Invasive procedures e.g. intravenous cannulation, intubation, needle thoracentesis, external jugular cannulation. Cardiac interventions e.g. manual defibrillation, 12 Lead ECG recognition, interpretation and treatment including the diagnosis of myocardial infarction. Demonstrate the ability to communicate complicated information when dealing with complex patients and their subsequent care, ensuring this is appropriately passed on to relevant parties in line with data protection requirements. Ensure that informed consent is obtained before undertaking assessment treatment or intervention. Participate/attend court, or other legal proceedings, as appropriate. Maintain timely communications with Control using appropriate information and communication equipment and procedures. Ensure that the Control Centre is aware of operational status and availability at all times. As first crew on scene at serious/major incidents, assume incident command on site, including deciding treatment priority of patients and liaising with officers from other emergency services, until relieved by the Leading Ambulance Paramedic or other Senior Ambulance Officer. Participate in regular major incident exercises and simulations in order to maintain and develop skills and record continuous professional development. Utilise appropriate and relevant information to assist patients, patient advocates or carers to make informed health choices in line with national guidance and the health promotion and prevention agenda. Identify and report to the appropriate authority incidents of risk, neglect, abuse or endangerment to vulnerable adults and children, implementing safeguarding procedures when appropriate. Maintain accurate and legible contemporaneous records of patient information to provide continuum of medical care, in line with the Caldicott requirements. Documenting assessment, treatment and interventions for medical, legal and management purposes. Provide accurate handover to nursing and medical staff. Where appropriate, take the responsibility for the recognition of life extinct (ROLE) under JRCALC guidance and Trust guidelines and complete appropriate paperwork, liaise with police and appropriate persons. Responsible for the condition and security of the emergency vehicle, ensuring that it is roadworthy under the Road Traffic laws and that it is properly equipped, maintained, fuelled and ready to respond to any medical emergency situation. Ensure strict adherence to departmental infection control policies for service vehicles and equipment. Drive emergency vehicles in line with current standards of emergency blue light driving. Maintain a level of fitness in accordance with role and attend any medical assessments to enable the post holder to safely carry out the duties of the post. Responsible for completing statutory and mandatory training and undertake CPD to maintain fitness to practice and adherence to the regulatory body, the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) standards. Identify developmental opportunities within the work context and take part in activities which lead to personal and professional development including undertaking reflective practice. Maintain professional registration as defined by current HCPC Standards of Proficiency for Paramedics. At all times exhibit and comply with the standards of personal and professional conduct and performance as required by HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
