Crynodeb
The Emergency Department at the Northern General Hospital is a large adult-only city department with 125,000 new attendances each year and acts as the Major Trauma centre for South Yorkshire. The directorate also manages a satellite nurse-led Minor Injuries Unit (20,000 new patients) across the city. This ENP led and is open from 08:00 until 20:30 every day. Although not on the NGH site the MIU comes under the umbrella of the ED and as such we are responsible for the care provided there. Emergency Medicine and Acute Medicine are components of the Acute and Emergency Care Directorate. The Directorate is focused on providing high quality medical care as well as providing high quality consultant led major trauma care to patients from South Yorkshire, North East Derbyshire with excellent outcomes. A Clinical Decision Unit runs 24/7 which also incorporates our current Same Day Emergency Care unit that is overseen by our Acute Medicine team.
