Pay Rate: £39.73 PAYE / £54.74 Umbrella
Duration: 28 July – 21 September 2025
Hours: Full-time, 36 hours/week (Mon–Fri, 09:00–17:30)

Barnet Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Public Protection Officer to join our Assurance team and contribute to making Barnet a safer, cleaner, and healthier place for residents and visitors.

About the Role
As a Public Health Nuisance & Noise Officer, you'll play a vital front-line role responding to environmental concerns. From investigating noise complaints and statutory nuisances to tackling public health issues like drainage, pests and refuse, you’ll act swiftly and decisively—gathering evidence, enforcing regulations, and upholding standards that protect our communities.

Key Responsibilities
Investigate a broad range of nuisance issues including noise, smoke, odour, dust, and light

Carry out site visits and “witnessing” exercises to gather evidence of statutory breaches

Respond to reports of public health concerns including drainage, pest infestations, and waste accumulation

Manage a varied caseload with professionalism and efficiency

Collaborate with residents, internal teams, and partner agencies to resolve issues effectively

✅ Essential Skills & Experience
Strong background in environmental protection and nuisance investigation

Demonstrable experience in enforcement and regulatory action

Knowledge of environmental health law, including domestic noise control

Qualified Environmental Health Officer or equivalent experience in Environmental Protection

Broad understanding of related public health domains, including pest control and waste management
