About the Role:

Daily Activities

Leicestershire County Councils, Contracts and Haulage Team are looking to recruit a Specialist HGV Driver to join the team. The main duties will be driving 32t Hook loaders, collecting, delivering and manoeuvring containers and compactors around sites in Leicestershire. General duties will not be limited to but include - completion of all uplifts and other jobs on any given day, and to do so in the most efficient and effective manner, comply with all systems, procedures or directions given by the Waste Management Supervisors, ensure due care for when carrying out the service, minimising any incidents, accidents, damage or costs, conduct daily vehicle checks in line with policy and legislation. Report all defects at the beginning and end of the day, liaising with the supervisor if unsure. Major defects to be reported immediately. Specialist HGV drivers will need to ensure that the services are delivered for the benefit of the people of Leicestershire, to be responsible for maintaining effective partnerships and working relationships with statutory, voluntary, private agencies and communities to promote and meet the Council’s and Department’s services and objectives.

The successful candidate will assist the Waste Management Supervisor and the team in providing the necessary attributes to process various types of waste in and out the Council’s facilities. The successful candidates will be required when trained to operate a variety of plant and equipment that will include loading shovels, telehandlers, and any other equipment on site.

About You

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A full, Driving License and insurance for business use (commuting vehicle)
  • HGV - C Category Driving License (Minimum)
  • Drivers CPC
  • Loading shovel/plant ticket/train the trainer qualification/willing to work towards
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Applying health & safety requirements to work tasks by following Safe Systems of Work and Risk assessments
  • Knowledge of driver and vehicle practices
