The post holder will develop knowledge, skills and experience in the assessment, management and rehabilitation of adult inpatients with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties arising from varied neurological and medical conditions. This includes patients across all acute wards including stroke, Acute Admissions Unit, care of the elderly, respiratory, and surgery.

The successful applicant will receive regular 1:1 supervision, joint clinical sessions, in-house training, peer supervision and other CPD opportunities within the UK’s largest NHS Trust.

This post provides a rare and exciting opportunity for a band 5 SLT to become a confident, highly- skilled independent practitioner working with swallowing and communication impairments in the acute setting.

The postholder will be supported to work through the RCSLT NQP and dysphagia competencies frameworks as required.

They will be responsible for managing a caseload of patients with communication and swallowing impairments across acute inpatient and stroke wards with support.

They will represent SLT at multi-disciplinary team meetings and ward rounds, and participate in delivery of teaching/training to other professionals.

There will be opportunities to attend and participate in videofluoroscopy clinics, and there may be scope for introduction to the critical care setting once basic competencies are achieved.
