What will I focus on as a Software Engineer?

As a Software Engineer within the General Insurance (GI) platform, you'll be responsible for leading and motivating a multi-disciplinary team of Software Engineers, taking accountability for all delivery and operational activities. You'll be passionate about technology, both current and future trends, and will look for opportunities to bring these into the platform, whilst being a role model for your team and colleagues around you.

What you'll need:

  • Proven experience in Engineering delivery roles - Duck Creek Desired but not essential.

  • Engineer stable, scalable, performant, accessible, testable, and secure software solutions using endorsed technologies and common build patterns.

  • Have proven experience in engineering principles, practices, and technologies.

  • Expertise in delivering and supporting high-availability, high-performance systems.

  • Have effective collaboration and communication skills, able to work and influence across functional boundaries.

  • A passion for coaching, developing & motivating colleagues.

Technology Experience

  • .NET Framework & C# & XML for Core development

  • SQL Server: Database platform for performance tuning and patching

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Skills in provisioning and configuring environments using pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Harness).

  • UCD (UrbanCode Deploy): Used for deployment automation (Nexus rm or Backstage also desirable)

  • CI/CD Creation and Maintenance: GIT or Harness Pipelines for continuous integration and deployment

  • Cloud Technologies (Azure or GCP): Migration and operation of cloud environments, including compute and storage scalability

  • Containerisation & Virtualisation: Familiarity with virtual and physical server provisioning, especially in strategic data centres

  • Platform Resilience & Observability: Designing for uptime, performance, and root cause analysis.

  • Web Services & APIs: Used for Integration with 24+ LBGI systems

  • Batch Processing: Understanding of batch suite performance and scheduling constraints

  • RPA & Automation (Batching): Familiarity with robotic process automation

  • Log Aggregation & Analysis: Tooling for log interrogation and root cause analysis (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace).

  • Dashboarding: Real-time analytics dashboards for infrastructure and application health

  • Support & Troubleshooting: Remote operations, incident response, and environment health checks.
