Job Title: Maintenance Manager
Location: Sheffield – covering 9 residential care homes across the city
Salary: £40,000 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday), with occasional on-call duties
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time
Reporting to: Director of Facilities

About the Role
We are looking for a proactive and experienced Maintenance Manager to join Sheffcare, a well-established charitable organisation providing care and support across Sheffield. This is a key leadership role responsible for the effective management and delivery of all maintenance, repairs, and compliance tasks across 9 care homes and central office services.

You’ll lead a small team of Maintenance Operatives and ensure all buildings are safe, fully operational, and maintained to a high standard – supporting a comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership: Supervise and support a small maintenance team, managing workloads, schedules, and performance.

Planned Maintenance: Develop and manage a routine maintenance plan, including heating, plumbing, electrics, and building upkeep.

Reactive Repairs: Respond swiftly to repair requests and emergencies, liaising with operatives and external contractors as needed.

Compliance & Safety: Ensure all sites comply with health and safety legislation, including fire safety and CQC standards.

Contractor Oversight: Appoint and supervise external contractors for specialised work.

Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of inspections, repairs, and safety checks.

Budget Management: Work within agreed budgets, ensuring value for money across all repairs and services.

Collaboration: Communicate effectively with care home managers to minimise disruption and prioritise maintenance needs.

Additional Duties:
Conduct 1:1 meetings and support the development of maintenance staff
Manage compliance procedures for Legionella, fire safety, PAT testing, and engineering systems
Provide hands-on maintenance support when team members are absent
Drive light vans to transport materials safely
Operate the computerised works order system
Prepare reports and authorise purchase orders
Attend Health & Safety forums and act as key contact in the absence of the Director of Facilities

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

Full, clean UK driving licence
Experience supervising maintenance or facilities staff
Practical knowledge of building maintenance, including mechanical and electrical systems
Comfortable with manual work and physically fit for the role
Strong understanding of health and safety compliance
IT literate, with good record-keeping and reporting skills
Strong communication and leadership skills
Ability to plan and prioritise work, manage resources, and work independently or in a team

Desirable:

IOSHH or equivalent Health & Safety certification
Facilities Management qualification (Level 3 or higher)
Trade qualification (e.g., plumbing, electrical, construction)
Experience in residential care or not-for-profit sector
Experience working with older people or those living with dementia
Familiarity with safeguarding and risk assessments
