Job Title: Fire Stopper
Department: Fire Protection / Passive Fire Systems
Reports To: Site Manager / Fire Protection Supervisor
Location: Aldermaston
Contract Type: Permanent, Temporary
Salary: £22ph
Hours: 8- 9 hours
Job Purpose:
To install and maintain fire-stopping systems and materials to ensure passive fire protection in buildings is up to current building regulations and fire safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Install fire-stopping systems including penetration seals, linear gap seals, cavity barriers, and fire-rated duct and cable protection systems.
Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications related to fire protection.
Work with various fire-stopping materials (intumescent sealants, fire boards, fire pillows, etc.).
Ensure all installations comply with relevant British Standards, manufacturer guidelines, and fire safety regulations.
Record and document all work with before-and-after photos and compliance forms for QA/QC purposes.
Liaise with site managers, other trades, and inspectors to coordinate safe and effective fire-stopping works.
Conduct fire risk assessments and report issues or defects to supervisors.
Follow strict health & safety procedures on-site, including the correct use of PPE and tools.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in fire-stopping or passive fire protection.
Understanding of fire protection legislation and regulations (e.g., BS 476, BS EN 1366, Building Regulations Part B).
Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Capable of working independently or as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications:
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Passive Fire Protection or relevant trade.
ASFP Level 2 (Association for Specialist Fire Protection) or similar certification.
CSCS Card (ideally in Fire Stopping or relevant discipline).
IPAF tickets for working at height.
