Description
The Trading Standards Officer (BR13) position is pivotal in ensuring compliance with legal standards and protecting consumers in our community. As a Trading Standards Officer, you will engage in a diverse range of activities designed to safeguard consumers and ensure fair trading practices. The role requires a proactive approach to investigating complaints, conducting inspections, and enforcing regulations related to product safety, weights and measures, and fair trading. You will play a key role in educating businesses and consumers about their rights and responsibilities, while also ensuring that local and national legislation is upheld. As part of our dedicated team, you will work closely with various stakeholders, including local businesses, government agencies, and community groups, to promote compliance and raise awareness of trading standards issues. Responsibilities
Investigate complaints from consumers and businesses regarding trading standards violations.
Conduct routine inspections and audits of businesses to ensure compliance with legal standards.
Provide advice and guidance to businesses on laws and regulations pertaining to trading standards.
Develop and deliver educational programs and workshops for businesses and the public on trading standards compliance.
Work collaboratively with other governmental and regulatory bodies to enforce trading standards legislation.
Prepare detailed reports and case files for enforcement actions and legal proceedings as necessary.
Monitor market trends and emerging issues related to trading standards to inform proactive measures.
Requirements
A relevant degree or qualification in trading standards, consumer protection, or a related field.
Proven experience in a regulatory or enforcement role, preferably within trading standards or consumer protection.
Strong understanding of trading standards legislation and its practical application.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information effectively.
Demonstrated analytical skills and attention to detail in investigating and resolving complaints.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
