Job description

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POST AND RESPONSIBILITIES

i) To provide caretaking duties at the Bedworth Heath Community Centre which will assist in meeting the recreational, educational and social needs of user groups.

ii) To ensure that the users of the Centre are provided with properly maintained functioning spaces and equipment.

Activities required to meet the purposes and responsibilities of the post

SECURITY AND ACCESS

The Caretaker will:

i) Be a key holder for the Centre.

ii) Be responsible for opening and closing the Centre as required ensuring the building is secure.

iii) Be available on alarm call out in the event of fire, break in or other emergency for which attendance will be paid at a minimum of one hour standard rate.

iv) Oversee user groups in and out and ensure that the facilities and equipment are prepared, cleaned and available to them and are in working order upon departure.

v) Note in the message book any misuse of grounds, facilities, equipment and or car park

vi) Ensure that there is no obstruction in the car park or access routes that can impede access by emergency services.

FACILITIES AND CLEANING

The Caretaker will :

i) When on duty maintain a safe, healthy environment by, as a minimum, clearing spills, keeping corridors clear and checking provision of soap, towels etc

ii) Support all events managed by the Centre as required

iii) Clean external surfaces, including pathways, car park, roadway, garden areas and outside frontage, including windows and ledges on a regular basis.

iv) Remove litter, cans, cigarette butts etc. maintaining a safe and attractive appearance to the public.

v) Support the operation of the Shop as required.

vi) Ensure all furniture is maintained, cleaned and stored appropriately.

vii) Vacuum, wash floors, clean kitchens, rooms, halls and toilets daily.

General duties

These will include:

i) Participate in Centre events which may include dealing with the public particularly where a volunteer has become unavailable.

ii) Participate in Centre activities including AGM’s and event days as required by the Chairperson

iii) Undertaking relevant identified training agreed with the Chairperson

iv) Comply with the Community Centres policies and procedures

v) Ensure the cleaning tasks required are carried out inline with the weekly cleaning rota.

vi) Carry out other duties as required by the Trustees to meet service requirements at Bedworth Heath Community Centre

CLEANING TASKS

i) Dusting, sweeping, vacuuming and using floor washer on surfaces in their work area including working areas, bathrooms, kitchens and shop

ii) Refilling and restocking cleaning supplies and toiletries (hand wash, toilet paper, paper towels

iii) Washing kitchen napkins, floor rags and dusters

iv) Maintaining cleaning products and ordering new supplies when necessary

v) Taking out the garbage

vi) Carrying out minor maintenance tasks such as replacing displaced toilet seats, unclogging sinks

vii) Conducting monthly disinfection and deep cleaning

viii) Maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs) and compliance with universal precautions.
