To provide Clinical and operational and professional support to the Lead Clinical Pharmacist Oncology Haematology and Technical Services in order to provide a high quality, efficient pharmacy service to patients and staff within C&W.

To provide training and supervision to pre-registration and rotational pharmacists rotating through technical Services.

To provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to patients within the Women & Children’s Directorate ensuring the safe, effective, legal and accurate use of medicines within the speciality.

The Specialist Pharmacist for Cancer and Technical Services will support the Lead Clinical Pharmacist Oncology Haematology and Technical Services to deliver a clinical pharmacy service to Medical Oncology patients and users of products from the Technical Services Unit including screening and final checking prescriptions for cytotoxic, clinical trial materials, IV additives and extemporaneously prepared and over labelled products.

They will co-ordinate and assist in delivering training for pre-registration and junior pharmacists rotating through Cancer Services.

Ward based clinical activities are focussed around delivering a clinical pharmacy service to a Women and Children’s speciality.

In addition to provision of Clinical Haematology ane Oncolgy services the post holder will be expected to:

· Work with the Clinicians in the management of Cancer and Haematology patients

· Screen Chemotherapy prescriptions including those for Clinical Trials

· Manage the outsourced chemotherapy products

· Support the Lead Clinical Pharmacist Oncology Haematology and Technical Services in ensuring the provision of an efficient, safe and legal service by Technical Services.

· Support the Lead Clinical Pharmacist Oncology Haematology and Technical Services to deliver a clinical pharmacy service to Medical Oncology patients and users of products from the Technical Services Unit including screening and final checking prescriptions for cytotoxic and clinical trial products

· Support the Chief Technician Technical Services to manage the operational aspects of the Unit including planning of workload and capacity monitoring.

· Support the Lead Clinical Pharmacist Oncology Haematology and Technical Services in conducting audits to ensure that professional standards are achieved in Technical Services.

· Support the professional role and development of the rotational resident pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacists within Cancer and Technical Services.

· Co-ordinate and participate in the training of pre-registration students, appraising their performance and liaising with tutors.

· Co-ordinate and participate in the training and development of other staff such as resident pharmacists.

· Contribute to the maintenance and development of Technical Services policies, procedures and standards and ensure that all staff are aware of their responsibilities within them.

· Liaise with heads of other pharmacy sections in order to develop and make the most effective and efficient use of staff.
